    Color theory class

Can you use the color dots on the selvage to choose your fabrics ? Or will the colors be too bland.

    #2
That is a great place to start. I add to that with brighter or duller fabrics to give the quilt a spark. We will be talking about that in the sessions.

Are all the blocks from Quick & Easy Block Tool Book going to be the same size?

I have Block tools from the original publication 15- 20 years ago and this looks like the same set up.

I have been looking thru my Encyclopedia of Blocks / BLOCK BASE and some have the same / historical names but some do not, so I am wondering as to the source of the blocks. I like to draft out the blocks in EQ7 it helps to have the historical names.

The size of the blocks will be up to you. You have several options of size in the Quick and Easy Block Tool Book. I will double check on the blocks I have chosen to see if they have more than one name.

Anna, All of the blocks I am using are from the book and you are free to make them any size you wish depending on what you will be using them for. You are also free to use blocks of your own if they work better for you.

Caught you on replay, Dee. Loving your focus fabric, but shipping to Canada means I’m working from stash. But can you share the name and line of the fabric? Thank you.

It is Fresh Cut from Michael Miller, Eat, Sleep, Garden Collection.

Any idea where to find Eat, Sleep, Garden. I can't find it at local quilt shops or online. Thanks!

Just a kind suggestion - please add the Live Time to the main class page. I looked all over and couldn't find it. I finally thought to look here in the forum. Looking forward to joining your live class this Saturday!

Do you recommend the 3 in 1 color tool? Will you be discussing it in future classes?

I will be discussing it this Saturday, March 5 and then you can decide if it is going to be helpful to you.

Kathleen, the dots on the fabric are a great way to start. I like to add to those colors and we will talk again about how to do that.

There was no class on March 19 because it was International Quilting Weekend and Alex used the 10am spot.

          Hello I’m Noella from Quebec,
I tried a couple different blues in the star, then different green and different sizes in the Monkey Wrench.

Noella, Your blocks look great. I like the common background fabric. Only the yellow one might use a little more contrast
in order to see the shapes in the block. Looking forward to more blocks. You have been a very active participant, I like that.

The dots at the end of the fabric is a good way to start to help you choose fabrics.

Dee, thanks for providing the catalyst for me to begin Jen Kingwell’s Wensleydale quilt. It has been interesting, and sometimes challenging, to put what has become so instinctive into specific color schemes. It is always a good refresher to go back to basic theory and analyze one’s choices. Here are two monochromatic schemes.
