    Pineapple Blocks

Has someone created or found a cutting chart for the 5 inch Pineapple Blocks that they can share? Must appreciated if you can share.

Dee, can you use regular freezer paper in a laser printer? Also, do you iron it on a regular copy sheet & then put through?

You cannot put the freezer paper sheets through a laser printer. It will melt the shiny surface.

If you are using the freezer paper method for the pineapple blocks, there was a great tip in the 2021 BOM form posting. The use of an edgestitch foot (Bernina 10D, or similar foot from other machine brands) is a wonderful tool. Below is a portion of that discussion posted by Barbara Black. I believe the discussion occurred around 1/19/2021 and was under the topic of edgestitch foot and other topics in the BOM section around that time period. You might want to try it if you have the foot. It really is a “game changer” and worth the price of the foot if you do a lot of freezer paper piecing.

Those of us who find the Edgestitch Foot to be a huge help in Freezer Paper foundation piecing, often say “thanks to whoever mentioned this”.

The first post came from Cindyaziah, who called it the “stitch in the ditch” foot. Sewmarti clarified the Bernina is called the Edgestitch Foot:

        https://www.bernina.com/en-US/Access...stitch-foot-10

Huge thanks to both—this foot is perfect for this method

Ester, I agree with Dee that it is easier with a little wiggle room. She said width of 1.5 inches for all strips. I always add a half inch extra on each end of strips so that is 1 inch longer than your foundation pattern picture piece you are measuring. Measure the the center square add 1 inch in width
and height to finished size. Measure one of the triangles in next row, add one inch to the length and all the strips cut 1.5 inches wide. Should be
easy to measure and just write your measurements on one of the foundation papers. HelenW

Thank you, Terri. I was having the same problem of trying to balance the pineapple blocks with my previously completed blocks. I can’t take much credit for the 12 block pineapple section. It was inspired by and modified from an extremely creative Pinterest post. I loved it and was very excited to see it on Pinterest, because I think it helps balance the amount of lights in the Trip Around the World and Bow Tie blocks in this quilt.

                    Jackie,
My "Like" buttons don't work on Safari or Firefox - "operator error"! FWIW, I figured it was the 9 block -- (Nice fussy-cut in the center square.) I gave up on the paper piecing and opted for the Creative Grids small pineapple ruler instead.

I hope you've enjoyed Long Time Gone and Saturday's with Dee as much as I have.

Terri S, I also love the Creative Grids Pineapple ruler for accuracy. Here is one I made with Kaffee using a color wheel layout.

I’ve been using the freezer paper method on the pineapple blocks but wasn’t satisfied using the applique pressing sheet or a non-stick ironing sheet, neither seemed to transfer heat to the freezer paper well enough for it to adhere well, by the time I got to the last two rounds the freezer paper wasn’t holding well so I got out my Clover mini iron - voila! It works great. I’ve also started using the fabric glue stick on the center square.

Glad you found a workaround on the freezer paper. I love the method, but keeping it in place is challenging as mine doesn't stick super well either. If you don't have your heart set on using the same pattern 20 times, I found that sewing the first seam using the traditional "sew through the paper" method, then sewing alongside the lines for remaining seams is also workable. Only one place to pull off the paper and if you are careful it's usable for another couple of times.

Sewskeel....this forum is really wonky, messy, and outright frustrating.... could only see your image when I pressed on the blank square in your post. It then appeared in the upper corner of my iPad as a thumbnail. When I pressed on that it enlarged. It’s a great set of four pineapple blocks with the sunflower center. Love it! Very clever...thank you for sharing it.
