At my last quilt guild meeting, the VP handed out a heart cut from that waffle-y rubbery stuff that goes under rugs or in cupboards. All you have to do is place that under the ruler and it doesn't slip! The only problem is that you have to move it each time, like when you cut a bunch of strips. You probably have some of this in your house already, so cut a piece and give it a try.

I use the same "waffle-y rubbery stuff" cut into two small pieces and use them instead of my Machinger gloves for free-motion quilting at times. I still like my gloves but sometimes the cupboard liner works better for me. I also use a larger piece to lay my hoop on a surface for hooping machine embroidery--the hoop does not move while trying to push to top part onto the bottom with the fabric in place. Great for lots of stuff!Originally posted by NancyAnn1959At my last quilt guild meeting, the VP handed out a heart cut from that waffle-y rubbery stuff that goes under rugs or in cupboards. I use the equivalent of Nexcare here too. It's just surgical tape for bandaging. I find it works best of all. I have used omnigrip as well and it works fine but the Nexcare is better. Also, using cotton finger tube bandage for difficult threads like monopoly and metallic works great as well. The cotton tubing usually comes in a box with about 4 rubber finger covers (they look remarkably like something else, but smaller   ) and they are good for FMQ too.
