    starting to paint fabric

due to the financial situation (and my addiction to fabric...).
may be you can give me an advice:
i want to start pain my own fabric but no clue where to start - what kind of fabric ( i know cotton but is sheet for bed is good for it?)
beside colors for painting what else i need to have?
    please help.
    thanks in advance !

Cotton bed sheet is fine. I used that before I found Empress mills packs of white cotton. (Actually only painted once but it's on my list of things to get to grips with) .

You need a piece of board covered in plastic to lay your fabric on. A spray bottle for water to dampen fabric and hot sun to dry it........ha ha You can iron the painted fabric or put it in the oven to set it. I don't think you need the chemicals you use with dying because the paint sits on the fabric rather than being drawn into it.

I'll see if I can find the links to videos that go through it. Aargh you are going to get me painting when I should be finishing projects

Mickey Lawler showed painting fabrics in a recent show but can't remember if she showed the whole process.

Sorry just thought you need small containers to keep diluted paints in. I bought some plastic screw top ones from a pound store.

I think you can get paint mediums to dilute the colour but don't know anything about them :?

            Becky, you will find assorted information about painting on fabric in TQS episodes: 506, 510, 612, 810, 901, 903, 906, 1009, 1013, and 1111.
            Maybe that will help!

I think soda ash (not ashes) is used with fabric dyeing, not painting. The last show on Mickey Lawler's Skydyes used Setacolor paints which don't need the soda ash. Using Setacolor Transparent paints is kind of instant gratification fabric painting. It's really easy to set up.

If you want to dye fabric, you might consider Jane Dunnewold's Craftsy class called The Art of Cloth Dyeing. It's an excellent, excellent class.

Setacolor sets with a hot iron. I've also used Tuseniko inks. You can get both of them from Dharma Trading Company.
