Month 5: Piecing the Star Blocks

The pattern and my video won't be available until tomorrow, but I wanted to share this applique tutorial with you that I just found:

    http://sewmamasew.com/blog2/2011/05/...m-fig-tree-co/

I'm now thinking that this would be a better way to make the template for the background circle than the method I demonstrate in the video!

Here is a photo of the original quilt where the stars are reverse appliqued into the background fabric using the blanket stitch:

Here is my star block where the circle is pieced into the background fabric. If I had made my circle template just a little larger, the tips of the star points would have been better, so keep that in mind when you do yours!

This is the method I first learned from a local quilter named Donna Vogel many years back. I think it gives very sharp, neat edges for appliqueing down.

      Thanks again Margo!
The method that you refer to is , I think, the same I had seen Alex do in her Classroom (Appliqué #10). I used this method in other projects. This results in crisp edge, and just wont move.

Can't wait to see the instructions and your video!

Oh, tomorrow. Right now, none of this makes sense, except how to make a circle Alex's and sewmama's way. However, Sue N is the raw-edged queen. It will be interesting to see the BOM directions and Margo's video.

Margo, you are such a TeasE!

I don't mean to be a tease, but I did want to share this freezer paper technique before someone did it my way, then realized freezer paper might be easier.

Once again, Margo has treated us to a wonderful video! By the end of this BOM we will all be brilliant, thanks to her fantastic teaching.

Well, if judging from the number of quilts posted in the Show & Tell link is any indication, we are a very small group this year, but I hope that the videos are helpful.

I haven't posted in Show & Tell for awhile. I have yet to do my stitching for last month, but my pieces are prepped. I'm almost finished my piece with a deadline, so will be able devote more time to catching up. I'm also waiting for all of the pro's and con's of different ways of completing this month. I'll look at the video tomorrow.

I watched the video last night too Margo and it is great. Very clear and easy to understand. Thanks again. I did a mock up of what I want mine to look like so I am all ready to go. I have to go sing for my supper (sing for my habit more like  ) so I will be starting to work on it next week. Looking forward to it. May the force be with you all.

Totally agree Susan and Rita, Margo makes it look so doable once again. Thank you Margo. I have watched the video a few times and taken notes, so almost ready to give it a whirl
