Um, so far, just "collecting" it. Nothing made yet. But I pet it a lot!

I continue to buy fabric that is way too beautiful to cut. I am getting better at just cutting into it; however, I got one sitting on the table now that has me stimmied. Well, see what happens to it. I wish I had, had the good sense to have purchased enough for a quilt back, but of course, I didn't.

That is beautiful Lois, it reminds me of the artwork of Mrs Delaney (an 18th C lady who made beautiful embroideries to her own designs and also made cut paper pictures of flowers similar to your fabric, she was also a friend of Queen Charlotte & her daughters I believe)

How do you cut into that?! :? Which flower to cut (or not - maybe broderie perse???)

Beautiful fabric, Lois! I am very curious to see what you do with it. Whenever I see large scale designs on a fabric, I tend to shy away because I don't know what I would do with the fabric (except admire it), but then remember those who purposely purchase these kinds of fabric because the flowers, for example, have many colors, shades and nuances that might be perfect in a quilt, and when done, you would not even know the fabric was flowers.

Lois, that's gorgeous! How about FMQ and enhancing the colors?

I've done several things with large prints. I have one quilt on my bed that is a large piece of fabric that I really loved, that I just spliced some solid black strips in as inner borders and then just quilted it up. I've also cut up nice fabrics like this in large squares to piece into a quilt. Keepsake Quilting has a wonderful pattern for large scale prints that uses a poinsettia fabric in their sample. My friend has made that one up with several different large-scale floral fabrics and it looks great. As mentioned, broderie perse would work really well with this fabric. So many choices! I try to never shy away from any fabric that calls to me. That might account for the size of my stash..... (And the diminished size of my checkbook!)

You can always fondle it in its raw state, but I also love to fondle it in a finished quilt.

So I have these two ideas that I am quite pleased with but not sure if they will work. My concern is that they might be too big for the space and/or making a spiky design seem even more spiky. Any opinions?

                          Rita,
I have only just caught up with the posts. I was thinking about your centre motif and the ones you have chosen look great. Just a suggestion with those striking red and white colors you have in your quilt, would your family crest or Coat of Arms will that space?

That fabric is beautiful, I love anything with a black background really enhances those lovely colors. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with Lois.
I have some Japanese friends and they have sent me fabrics I just can't bring myself to cut into, some are embroidered and have that wow factor too.

Hi Gail, thanks for that suggestion. It's probably a little late now as I have already started fusing the fabrics. But I like it and I will use it at some stage on something else.

Lois...I'd use Bethany Reynolds' methods and" Stack and Whack" that piece. It's a print with "air space" between
the elements and that is hard to find. ! Do you have mirrors ? two taped together like Sharon Schamber was
using in her demo ? Even a "four-sy" would be pretty...if you don't have enough repeats. Try it out.....and see
how it would kalidescope.( ops: spelling )
