    Help!

I'm ready at last to bind my Stars for a New Day and my pattern is packed in a box in my home in Washington. The quilt and I are in Vermont until the end of September. I know I could probably guesstimate but I'm wondering if anyone can tell me the measurements for the binding. How many strips cut to what size? Thanks so much.

Hi Mom G I have just been looking at the pattern for you, it has the measurements for the outer borders in the green flower swirls, and then just says ' use the remainder of this fabric to bind the quilt' I guess you will have to guesstimate. sorry I could not of been more helpful. Thank you. Actually my memory had been telling me something similar. Thanks so much for looking. Now the real chore begins: I always do that final round of the binding by hand.

I finished binding my quilt Sat. night, and have slept under it 3 nights---the first 3 in a row I have slept through in forever. I cut my binding at 2 1/2 inches. I needed ten widths of the green. Since I enlarged it to King size, I had to bind 400 inches. I did the last sticthing by hand. The quilt is really fantastic. Now I want to take off the wallpaper and paint the walls. What a wonderful experience. Sally in Walnut Creek

Hey Sally, I went looking for a picture but found none. Did you use the kit or did you use other fabrics?

            Hi Gloria,
I used the quilt kit because I loved the colors. Since I had a very busy year I wanted to eliminate some of the thought work with choosing my own palette. I enlarged it so ending up using some of the green I bought for the backing on the front. I found a nice yellow background print. I photographed it this afternoon, so hope to get pictures of it and three other quilts I just finished up soon. Keep checking. Thanks! Sally

For a quilt binding, measure each side-all four of them. Add them together; your total plus 12 inches for miters and fudging is how much binding you'll need. If the quilt has straight sides, I cut from selvage to selvage.

              Here's an example:

80+80+80+80=320 linear inches. 320+12=332 linear inches. Use 40 inches for a standard width. 332/40=8.3 strips. I err on the side of caution and cut 9 strips. The width is up to you. I normally use 2 1/2 inches.

Dear TQS members, I am trying to finish Stars for a New Day 2009 BOM. I am at the large setting triangles around the stars. The fabric is Canterbury by Robert Callaham for Red Rooster Fabrics,DSN#18170. It is the large green floral and the light yellowish large florals sold in the kit by the TQS shop.Icut my fabric wrong and now I do not have enough fabric to finish one side. I know I have seen on the forum a website to hunt for needed fabric ,but I can not find it. Does anyone remember the website/ If all else fails ,would some of you members that bought the kit consider selling me your large size pieces of these two fabrics? Thanks very much,a very frustrated member right now,DixieH

Dixie H, I've had very good luck at http://www.quiltshops.com when looking for a particular fabric. In the search box, put very little description. In this case, I'd put Canterbury and see what you find. Hope this helps!
