Is it too late to start this BOM?

Hello I stumbled across this fantastic website last week and have become thoroughly addicted since then. I've spent a lot of time watching Alex's excellent lessons in the classroom this week and also looking at the BOM lessons and videos...wow! what a fantastic resource this is. There's nowhere within driving distance of where I live that makes this sort of learning available.

I've fallen in love with the BOM quilt and would love to have a go at making one but am wondering if it's just too late in the process to get started now. I don't live anywhere near to a quilt shop with a wide selection of fabrics and don't have a sufficiently big enough stash to pull that amount of fabric from so I think I would need to order the kit if I do decide to start on this journey.

Is/has anbody else started on the BOM months after it began? It looks like such a wonderful learning experience.

First of all, WigglyWoods, welcome to TQS!!! Also be sure to check the Member Blogs and Forum to learn more about our friendly community!
And about starting the BOM late? ABSOLUTELY!!
I dont' know how much time you have to devote to sewing, or how advanced your quilting skills are, but this project is well worth catching up, and if you order the kit you will know that you have enough fabric. You will be able to download the monthly instructions as they become available, and even if you don't finish by the end of the year, you will have what you need to get it done when you can!
Besides all of the information on the site, you may also find some of my tutorials helpful. I offer some alternative ways to do some of the monthly processes because there is always a different method to try until you find something that works for you.
Here is the first one. These are always available on my Webshots albums and you can get to them at any time by just clicking on my profile photo anywhere that you see it on the site, or just do a search for "Margo".
Again, welcome from across the pond!

Welcome - this is a great place and I'm sure you will love the people here! I agree with Margo that of course, you should go ahead and get started. And in my opinion, there's no reason you have to finish in December. Take as long as you need, just be sure to download all the directions; because I'm sure there will be another BOM in 2010. And both Sue and Margo's tutorials have been extremely helpful. So please do join us and remember to post pictures of your progress in Show & Tell.

No, it is not too late. I started the BOM in July. I found out about this site in May. I too fell in love with the BOM. I took me a few weeks to get all the fabrics together. So needless to say I am behind but each month I print out the directions and put them in a folder. I am still working on February. I know one of these days I will get it done.

It's never too late to start! And as has been said, you can always print out the instructions and file them until you get them done! Climb on board and enjoy the ride!

Thank you for the lovely welcome I've placed an order for the BOM kit...I only needed a little encouragement! Hopefully I will be able to make a start at the beginning of September after our holidays, in the meantime I think I'll get started on printing out the instructions!

Welcome Theresa...After reading your profile I don't think you will have a problem catching up. I Started the first block in January and went on a prolonged vacation from Feb. 15 until May 8. When we got back home I decided it would be easier to order the kit than spend hours in the fabric store. (old age creeping up..LOL) I am very happy with the fabric in the kit as I'm sure you will be. Have a great time preparing and working on the BOM.. Nan in Massena NY

WOW! Teresa, thanks for updating your profile with the link to your blog! You won't have any trouble with the BOM! I have never seen a jiggy quilt before, and love the concept!! Will have to try that with some quilty friends!

Welcome Teresa! If you have any issues , the forum has extensive discussion related to the making this quilt. There is a good search function in the forum. You can always pose questions and expect an almost immediate answer from someone.

Many of us had to learn to cut, sew and press a real 1/4 inch seam,
and many of us newbie quilters are converts to starching fabric before cutting. That makes a huge difference on accuracy.

It's a joy to look through the Show and Tell to see the great variety of colorways used.
                  Happy Quilting!

Welcome Terese, I don't think it is ever to late to start a BOM. I am still on May. I know that I'll be able to catch up as soon as some time comes free in my schedule. I am looking forward to seeing your color choices.

I am waiting for the rest of my fabrics to arrive and I'm planning on starting next week. I feel like I may have a bit of advantage by being able to watch all the videos and read the tips of all those before me.

Looking forward to seeing your results also.
