    BOM Squad

Wow, so much to catch up on. Count me in for the BOM squad too. I haven't been keeping up with the forum and I'm still working on the May BOM... aaahhh. I will catch up though.. I'm not worried. Love to see all the members of the BOM squad and their blocks-- I'm so lucky to be a part of this group.

I went to my first Quilt Show last weekend (Minnesota Quilters, Inc. 2008 Show and Conference). It was awesome... I was like a kid in a candy store. I didn't know which way to turn first. Everywhere I looked there was something beautiful!!

Welcome to the forum. Your blocks are gorgeous. I really love the light yellow with lavender. I love your quilt across the miles table cloth too. Did you use batting?

Thank you Judy. I did use a thin batting in the tablecloth. Actually, if I were to do it over again I think I would have tried to find a batting that was even thinner than what I used or maybe no batting-- not sure. It just doesn't lay as flat as I would have liked.

Your blocks are beautiful! They will make a lovely quilt when finis hed. I know what you mean about the Minnesota Quilt Show - I've gone to it a couple of times when it's been in Duluth. The first time, I roomed in a motel with some of my quilting buddies so we could go 2 days! - Otherwise, it's about 1-1/2 hrs from where I live. But it was well worth every minute and every penny I spent!

I'm wondering about just using a sheet of flannel to quilt a tabelcloth. Someone here was saying they still just use flannel as the old quilter's did. I used it in my very first one in 1964 before I was married. I used several thicknesses in a baby quilt and it still looks great, and WAS used quite a bit.

Forgot to say, I love your colors in your BOM. They are so soft, they make me think of fields of lavender!

Lynn, I am one of the people who has mentioned flannel as a batting. I use it because I like the thin look that I get in my table covers and other quilted decorative items. For old fashioned looking quilt you can use flannel as your batting do your quilting and then wash the quilt three times. you will get shrinkage but if you want that puckered old fashioned look for an item it is great. Otherwise, wash and shrink the flannel first before you put it in your quilt. The other advantage if you want a different quilting design on the front than on the back of the quilt you can quilt each side of the quilt separately and then put them together and put in just a little strategic quilting to hold both sides together. (When Ricky saw it the first time even he was surprised that I had done that I figured that was a compliment. But he taught me to try and see "what if?" I buy the decorator flannel when I have a 40% off coupon at one of the chain fabric/craft stores. That way I can afford to quilt as much as I do for as many different people. I save batting for the "keepsake quilts" that I send to a longarm quilter.
