I think I remember something from an earlier opportunity to get tickets for a taping, that there really isn't much in LaVeta in the way of hotels, and they fill what there is w/ all the crew & guests, so we might need to stay in the next large town... can't recall which that is, but maybe about an hour away ?? Then we could get a charter bus for the daily drive down to La Veta.

I'm in, Good Lord Willing! So far, still on schedule w/ the blocks! It'd be great if Lilo or Pat could step in to help w/ arrangements... hint, hint

I looked it up online and Walsenburg is 16 miles away with hotels. That is pretty close.

I'm coming , and plan on having it done and carrying it on the plane with me.

That way I don't have to worry about lost luggage and have you heard that one of the airlines is now charging for checked bags.

Count me in!!! I can't wait! I wonder if there will be enough BOMettes coming from Texas to fill a bus or maybe a rental van? Just a thought. This is so exciting, Sept 09 will be here before we know it! WandaM in hot Shiner TX
          Happy Quilting,

maybe there doesn't need to be ANY criterion! :? :? Just a desire to come and commune together.

Well....it looks like this ball is rolling and picking up speed!!!

FYI...Lilo has offered to help with arrangements at that end, but like I said, dates won't be firmed up until next spring.
She said that Walsenburg is an option, as the cast and crew of TQS pretty much take over LaVeta.

I don't think that we should say no to ANYONE who wants to join us, but depending on the total number of participants, and the fact that there are only 40 seats available for each taping segment, we might need to set a criterion for that.

There are 57 members who have posted at least one block, but because my Webshots album has had almost 28,000 hits already, I have a feeling that there are a few more who are making blocks that haven't been posted!!! (Either that, or some poor soul REALLY needs to get a life!!! LOL!!!)
There are also some who have already said they want to join us who haven't started yet!

At any rate, I hope that whoever comes will bring their blocks, or tops or finished quilts with them.
What a photo op that will be!!!

LOOK OUT LAVETA, THE TQS BOMettes ARE HEADED YOUR WAY!

This sounds FAB, but what if a few of the behind the scene BOM'ers are "DudeBOM'ers". We sure wouldn't want to leave 'em out.

I'm sure there must be alot of us out there that haven't posted our blocks yet--I've got to get my digital camera back from our son who's been taking pics of the new baby. I have four blocks finished and I'm going to start May tonight. I want to hand quilt my top and embellish it with some beads after the quilting is finished. It will just have to be a priority starting New Year's Day, 2009, so it will be finished for the trip to LaVeta!!!

Count me in! The 40 limit is for the taping of the show, so even if there were more than 40 who wished to go, that could happen, and we could draw lots to see who won the opportunity.

Maggie in E. Central Illinois, where it was a dank, 40 degrees yesterday, but now the weather is promising some 80s. We are literally going to go from running the furnaces (my neighbors, not me) to air conditioning.

That is obviously an option, but I wonder if it might be more fair to say that the members who bring a FINISHED quilt will be guaranteed to attend the taping? If there are only a few finished quilts, drawing lots seems the only fair way to choose if there are more than 40 members who make the trip. I hope that we can fill the studio for at least one taping, and maybe more!!!
Maybe this will be the incentive to make the effort to get the quilts finished?

Wanda, there are a lot of us from Texas so we are pretty scattered Maybe we could set one meeting place and if possible carpool to that and then get the bus. I would love to go but if it is in September we may not be back to Texas BUT IF WE AREN'T BACK TO TEXAS YET I PLAN TO LOBBY VERY HARD FOR A SIDETRIP TO LA VETA FOR THE TAPING.

I am making two of each block and the traditional colored ones will probably become wall hangings and go to different people BUT the funky ones areMINE and I just decided this morning to start putting them together as a quilt as you go so I can have all the squares quilted as we go along and decide on exact placement etc when all are done. Any ideas out there on what I should do for the backing squares?

Ann in Northern Iowa (I bought long underwear yesterday because I have been freezing and it isn't supposed to warm up for days yet.)

You know, Ann, I've been thinking a little (before this discussion) about doing this as a "quilt as you go" project just because I like to ALWAYS have some kind of handwork that I can pick up at the last minute at ANY time! I am trying to force myself to learn to machine quilt (ie. gathering equipment, reading, - but just barely sitting at the machine! ha ha) and I guess I could go either way on this quilt!

Lynn, west of Houston 20 miles in Sugar Land

                              So, here's 1 for Texas

I have been considering trying the Cotton Theory quilting on each block. I've watched the video a couple of times and can't see why this wouldn't work and look very pretty at the same time. Has anyone else tried this method and if so, how did it turn out?
