Nancy, your quilting is gorgeous! I'm excited to start as there are so many spaces for a variety of quilt motifs. I also plan to stitch in the ditch first. Did you use matching thread or monopoly? I don't long arm and am going to attempt this on my Pfaff Creative Sensation. I've never quilted a quilt this big and am anxious about whether I can handle it.

Norma, because my background was black, I used smoke monopoly for stitching in the ditch and Superiors Bottom Line for my quilting, I didn't want the quilting to appear too heavy. If you take your time you can do the quilting on your Pfaff, I know it seems monumental but it is achievable. Good luck. Looking forward to seeing your finished quilt.Originally posted by Norma64Nancy, your quilting is gorgeous! I'm excited to start as there are so many spaces for a variety of quilt motifs. Nancy, you are so generous with your tips. Thank you so much. Just a few more questions...
I also have a black background. What did you use for your backing, a fabric that reads solid or a print and what color? Does your quilting show on the back or blend in? Also, did you use stable stuff as your stabilizer under the nonembroidered areas? If so, did you keep it in the quilt before quilting? I also plan to show this quilt and want to prepare well before quilting.

Norma, the backing of my quilt is a very busy fabric (pixs below). As for the quilting it basically blends in with the backing fabric, I used Superior's Bottom Line for the top and bobbin. In regard to the non-embroidered areas, I did not use any stabilizer, however, on the large areas around the outside circle I did do Trapunto Feathers and used double batting to give it a little extra loft. I tried to do a close-up of an area of heavy scribbling on the back and as you can see you really don't see the quilting all that well. I learned that if you aren't really that confident in your quilting and don't want some of you boo-boos to show up, use a busy print. If you have any other questions, I'll be more than happy to help you out. Also, where are you planning to show your quilt? Good luck and don't forget to take progress pics.Originally posted by Norma64Nancy, you are so generous with your tips. Thank you so much. Just a few more questions...

I love your backing!! I need to find a busy print that pulls in my colors. I have a lot of bottom line and have used it in the bobbin when I embroider, but have never used it to quilt. Think I'll experiment. I have used King Tut top and bobbin in other quilts, but find that unless I use the same shade in the bobbin as the top, some bobbin color pulls to the top. Have played around with tension, but no good results. I have a lot of areas to quilt that are not black. Did you keep black bobbin thread throughout or change colors? You have been so much help!
As to where I plan to show, I won a blue ribbon at the Long Island Quilt Show last year for an embroidered quilt, so probably there next March. As I live in Vermont, I'll probably enter the Vermont Quilt Festival next year...too late for this year. I'm in no hurry. I want to take my time and do my best work.

Hi Nancy, I just love your choice of colours. I have made mine similiar to Sarah's but so tempted to make one like yours. What fabric did you choose for the colours. Was it all one range. I found I had heaps left over from mine. Will have to rework that. Thankyou for inspiring me. Maree Ratcliff Tasmania
