    Templates for Month 2

Downloaded month 2. Check! Printed out templates. Check! Grids measure 2" square exactly. Check! Watched month2 video. Check! Printed out templates onto fusible. Check. All systems GO!! Lift off!!!

Going to dinner now. I will play with fabrics when I get back. I am psyched. Can you tell? Plus two days until retirement. Woo! Hoo!

P.S. I laid out the parts from month 1 with the templates from month 2. This project just got exponentially larger! Can't wait to see what we all do this month.

Yay Mary Ellen! Here's to a long and happy retirement!

I'm so impressed with everyone who just jumps in and gets started. You are right, I think the quilt more than doubles in size in month 2. Where is everyone planning to keep it as it grows? I'm hoping it will survive folding.

Monica I like to roll block rather than fold I get a swimming pool noodle cut it to size and wrap my blocks around and pin them, if I don't cut the noodle I should be able to use a full one for month one and two, I will try to get a photo. Joan

Oh yeah! Just try and find a noodle to buy in the dead of winter in Montana! When I saw that Margo had a noodle on the knee lifter of her sewing machine, and wanted one too, it was in winter. I had to wait until around May to find one in the stores! So, I have half a noodle now in the closet, and I just don't think THAT will work!

Go to your quilt shop, dress fabric shop or hardware shop (has plastic etc on them) and ask if you would be able to have the cardboard roll that the fabric comes on, it comes in all lengths and is very rigid I have a few and they are wonderful, I actually roll more than one quilt on the same roll sometimes, I use a little sticky tape or a rubber band to hold the quilt on, you can then stand it up in a corner and it doesn't take up much room at all, I find that to stand them up is better than laying them down. I also went to the Post Office and asked for the rolls that they have, I don't know what their use was, they are round cylinders with a plastic stopper in each end they also come in various sizes, about 2foot long maybe and I store some of my patterns etc in them, this is all rubbish to them which they have to dispose of and are grateful for them to be gone. I live in Australia but the same should work for everyone. Good Luck.

Good use for the noodle....and cardboards. I cut up a noodle and use it for my bindings...works great.

I still have to finish Block one by sewing it together....the rings are scaring me but I will try again this weekend.

Happy retirement...I see many quilts in your future.

Try looking for the foam pipe insulation that looks a lot like the swimming pool noodles.

Thanks! I don't know why I didn't think of those! I used to buy LOTS of them to protect my young trees from the deer who loved to rub the velvet off of their antlers, using the poor little tree trunks! It would take the bark right off and then the tree would die!

I tried to print on Steam a Seam 2, but it wouldn't show on the removable paper, and trying to print on the on the fusible webbing itself, no way, too sticky.

What are you using and do you have any hints on how to print?? Cynthia

I used Pellon WonderUnder and cut it into 8.5x11" sheets to feed through my printer (carefully!).

I taped vliesofix to paper and fed it into the printer. Worked OK for page 3 and 4 but got stuck in the head when it had to start near the top of page. I tried leaving 1/2 of paper but still no luck. It didn't take long to trace with a ruler. Better than ruining my head on the printer.

I was able to use steam-a-seam lite using Sarah's method of taping it to a sheet of computer paper and fed it into the printer one at a time it worked beautifully steam a seam lite only has one paper.

Thanks for the great ideas, ladies! I'm sure somewhere I'll be able to find either a noodle or the insulation. It is already February, and the stores around here get a very early jump on summer, so I have a feeling I will find a noodle somewhere. I think a trip to Canadian Tire is in my near future!

I used steam a seam 2 , it had to be cut down to 8.5 x 10.5 to leave the 1/2" Sarah recommended, I did print with all the layers making sure that it would print on the paper side with the adhesive,it printed on the printer paper first time around. After it printed, let it sit for a few minutes for the ink to dry. The only issue I did have was one of the templates printed on the 1/2" side where it was cut off because of the way it fed into the printer.

So I taped it down where there was a little on the front and most of tape folded over to the back and only cut off 1/4" and it worked fine. I also use an applique sheet on the bottom and the paper from the applique paper to iron on my fabric. I don't need all the ink and gunk on my nice iron or my ironing board. Made up one sample, this quilt is going to be so pretty!

I finally got mine to print, however the paper of the steam a seam crinkled ever so little and when comparing these prints to the plain paper they were somewhere between 1/8 and 1/4 inch shorter. I decided to go the way of the tracing over a light box.

I goofed up on my first diamond so I will be starting over. Worst part is that I ruined a beautiful foundation that had turned out just right. Oh well onward and upward! Cynthia
