    Circle Size

So now that month 1 is finished Just to double check what should my circle measure once template 1-3 are all attached? Mine measures 16 5/8"

If I remember correctly (it hurts my brain to think that far back sometimes) the finished size of the center circle is 16.5". An eighth of an inch will be easy to "fudge" when you begin building on to it.

fudsy, I have learned that it always helps to say whether your measurement is "finished" or "unfinished." If your unfinished measurement is 16 5/8, you are actually 3/8" too small, which may be a little hard to "fudge." If your overall measurement, minus 1/2" (the finished size) is 16 5/8" I'd say you did well!

Hummmm..... that would be the unfinished size I may have to redo the first month again. We shall see what happens next month

I am not the pro here, but why can't you just make a new outer (template 3) ring and just make it a tad bigger to conform to the known unfinished measurement?

I think I may have confused some. By "finished size" of 16.5 I meant the size once all of the units for the center circle including the frame are stitched together. Not the size once additional seams are added. Just the center.

I remeasured mine this morning the size from solid black line to solid is 16 1/4" outside to outside (unfinished) 16 5/8.

May we please have an "official" ruling on what the unfinished size should be please Sarah

Mine, outside finished (black line to black line) is 16.5 inches. Does this sound right? Does it say somewhere what the finished size is?

My finished outer ring is 16.5 inches, unfinished 17 inches. Hope this helps! I did almost forget to trim down to the correct black dashed line, but quickly saw the pink line would never do when I went to start pinning!

Oh Boy, I think I may be in trouble here. I just finished the first 3 rings and I measure 16.5" from black dotted cut line to black dotted cut line.

Please let us know what it should be and what to do to fix any errors.

First of all - I love the colors that you have chosen for your quilt. It is going to be beautiful when it is finished.

Don't worry about the paper falling off the triangles, in fact since it is falling off if would probably be better if you took it all off, since it looks like you did the stay stitching, and then you won't have to worry about it!

The center circle should measure 16.5" when it is finished (i.e. the quilt top has been put together). When you add seam allowances, the center circle (made in month 1) should be 17" diameter, and the hole it is going into should measure 16". I'm not too worried that your hole is 16.25" as you will be able to ease this to fit. If your circle/center is 16 5/8" then I'm thinking that your seam allowances are a little too generous.

Try the 1/8" seam again - after having removed the paper from the triangles. Not sure what else to suggest other than appliqueing it, but if I get a flash of inspiration I will definitely let you know.

                          Sarah :-)

I don't understand how this could happen at all. I was especially careful when putting the foundation together to measure several of the boxes (either 2 or 3") and I did all the sewing on the black lines. My measurement comes out to 16.5 from black dots to black dots. What I'm reading it doesn't look like I'm alone. I can't bare the thought of having to do the center circle over for the 4th time. I have invested so much time and money for all the fabric but now feel frustrated.

I think what I will do today is just remove the outer small band and increase the size about an inch more, put it together and then trim it down manually to be exactly 17". I think I'll wait until later today to do that in case someone comes up with some other magic. I will work on the triangles for month 1. Please post the measurements for the pieces for each month so we know where we're headed.

When you print out and piece together the template for the outer circle border (I mean JUST the thin band going around the entire unit), what size does it measure in diameter before any sewing is done with it?
