    Month 2 Applique blocks

On page 2, instructions written to "Draw line 1/2" from raw edge". Should be 1/4" per Laura's tutorial.

No, the pattern has the squares cut 6”. The 1/2” line is to show where the finished block will be, 5”. This is so you don’t place the appliqué into the seam allowance.
In the video Lynn does say to draw the lines 1/4” inside a 5.5” square. Same result.
If using Terial Magic the square won’t shrink any more so working with a 5.5” square works. If using softer fabric, cutting the square 6” allows you to trim the finished block to 5.5” after all the appliqué is done.

My tracing and cutting is “hamajang” as we say in Hawaii. I discovered that my Simple Shapes accuquilt die has the perfect leaf shape for the appliqué. I cut the shape using print and piece light and the shapes fit perfectly within the five inch square. Yay! Now to make 44 more leaves. Those tiny circles will challenge me also.

Make the circles larger so they won't be so challenging. --Lynn

I made the mistake of starching ALL the fabrics. I could not tease, cajole or otherwise force the shapes into submission without winding up with those annoying tiny points and finally gave up on turned applique. I switched to raw edge applique with a combination of machine blanket stitch, machine embroidery and hand embroidery (around most of the hearts) and think they came out okay.
