Drew Barbara's alternate square/petal block up in EQ8 and made a sample, that turned out good enough
to use in the quilt. I drew up an alternate block a while back using the petals from another of Jen's patterns.
Daisy Do. Trying to get as much done as possible, since I am helping several other quilters make unique
quilts for gifts. Right now the volleyball quilt is getting most of my attention. HelenW

Cindy, Thanks for the compliments. The flower block is using a couple shapes from Jen Kingwell's
Daisy Do pattern. So I call that block, Pick a petal and daisy do too. Color My World was an really
fun year of quilting. Never knew what would pop into my mind. Probably the most fabulous Color
My World adaptation was Carole Berry's wool felt and hand embroidery quilt she called Home.

Since you’re showing instructions on your blog WHY can’t you post the pattern? There may be those of us who are ready to start.

I release my blog on Sunday. It could have been February 26 or March 3--I chose to be early rather than late. The Quilt Show releases the pattern the first of each month, sometimes a day or so early.

I do the blogs to be helpful, on my own time. If you don't want to see it early, don't look at it.

Pam, You are probably not aware that even though Barbara Black works for The Quilt Show, her blog is not connected
and all those free tips, tricks and valuable quilting advice is available to you free, but Barbara is spending hundreds of
hours of her own time (not paid) over and above her job for The Quilt Show. Most BOM's that I have participated in that are
not part of the Quilt Show, give little to no extra help. You get a packet or pattern once a month and that is it.
I feel we are truly lucky to have someone on the forum that is giving us tons of extra help just from her heart and love of quilting.
I have never seen a better run BOM or one with so much help. HelenW

I totally agree with Helen. Barbara's extra help makes doing these quilts so much better. It also helps create a great community.

Here are my first 3 month 3 blocks. I sketched out the block on graph paper, made large appliqué patterns from the sketch, and used the freezer paper/starch method to prepare the pieces. I used the machine applique method to finish it off.

Just finished the border fans….whoopie…and started on month 3 (block is visible if one clicks on the photo). The inner handle was hand pieced; the remainder machine pieced. Although, I started quilting when one only hand pieced and hand quilted, I had forgotten how important it is to use a needle that one is really comfortable with. Jen reiterated this in her video, as did Jinny Beyer. Once I admitted that I was not comfortable with milliners and used my favorite Tulip #10 applique needles things progressed much more smoothly. I’m looking forward to month 3. My first block was rather wonky, but now I’m much more confident hand piecing again.

I really like your Daisy Do blocks Helen. Was that pattern written as an 8.5 inch block or did you have to alter it? It works well with the other blocks.

Connie, No it was not written for an 8.5 inch block. Yes, I altered it using EQ8 to draw the shape in
a 8 inch finished block. HelenW

Thanks Helen. My EQ8 skills are minimal at best. I can barely do straight lines, so don't think I could manage to do that one. Your blocks look great!

I cut 9 inch square. Hand piece M to I and add J. Appliqué that unit to square then applique petal L on top. Trim to 8 1/2
              Starched all pieces

Monique, Yes the block is all applique. I cut an oversized 9 inch square, then used Judith's template plastic
technique to edge turn the pieces. Laid them down using glue dots and then stitched the edges by machine.

Is anyone machine stitching the daisy block without getting puckers? if so what is your magic trick?

Diane, Way back at the beginning Sonia posted a youtube where the person used glue
sticks before stitching. I think it might solve your problem. You might go back and see if
you can find the post. HelenW

I am doing machine applique. Haven’t had trouble with puckering. I use starch on the pieces and dots of Roxanne’s Glue when placing the pieces before starting to stitch. Please note: I didn’t piece this block; instead, I created larger appliqué pieces using the templates and attached them to an 8 1/2” square of background fabric.

I found that clipping the concave curve and putting the clipped curve on top for machine sewing is working for me. The pieces seem to just curve into each other. I use a tweezers to keep the edges aligned as I sew. I only need to glue the beginning and the end. My problem is resizing the templates. So far my test blocks were 1/2 inch too small and now today’s 1/2 inch too big.

I finished month 2 and it took me two evenings to make one block of month 3. Difficult but I am confident I learned something with this one block and by the time I’m on the 19th one it will be a piece of cake. I think the month 3 block in the photo is too dark, though.

Jennifer Your crescent 9 patches look great. The petal block does jump out, but if they were all that way and you alternate it
would look like a design decision. If you just went with a background that is more like the color and value of the crescents
I think it would fit in fine. I see you oversized the outside piece. Smart. HelenW

Finally finished month 2. Had 2 to go when month 3 pattern dropped so had to do a couple of them. Still hand cutting and sewing but I don’t think that will be the case next month
