BIG NEWS! More on Fan Blocks

There is a brand new Supplementary Video showing all the steps for paper piecing the Fan Blocks for the outer border. Including how to cut and prepare the handles and outside background fabrics.

This supplements my written blog on the process and adds things I ran out of time to explain on the LIVE broadcast of February 2, 2024.

We ALSO ADDED THE BACKGROUND TEMPLATE, piece N. For those who don't yet have the acrylic templates, you now can make your own background piece N if you want. Sally Collins show # 1602 is great to see how to make accurate plastic templates.

Find these two additions in MONTH 2 of Pick A Petal 2024 BOM.

Barbara, Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I could see your lights on in Huntsville at midnight all the way from north Idaho. Took a couple screen shots so when
quilters are looking for the right spot, they will recognize the page. HelenW

Thank you for showing how to do fan blocks. But why bother with new template. It is easier to applique the fans to a rectangle of background fabric and trim away underneath same as for curved arcs in month 2. More forgiving if you struggle to be accurate like me. I'm going to do mine quilt as you go so photos in a bit. Thanks again.Wendy Otter

There are multiple methods for just about everything in quilting. Some people will not applique. Some will not "waste" fabric. It helps to see alternative methods so you can find your favorite. None is right or wrong, just different.
And providing the Month 11 fan block background template now is my "gift" to those who have not yet received the acrylic templates so they don't have this template shape yet.

Wendy O. I can't wait to see your quilt as you go photos. Are you doing machine quilting or hand quilting? HelenW

Good idea - that’s what I was I was thinking of doing. I’m not sure I want the outside edge to be the same fabric as the circle-y thing. So I’m still pondering it.

Hi,Helen, I'm machine quilting. Making the blocks oversized and will trim just before assembly as then the edges are protected. Will post photos when I learn how.
