Barbara…I just watched the supplement video regarding the fans. I am so disappointed that I’ve made the fans not using the paper piece method. I like that process. But I just want to say ..to save fabric the outer piece should be cut first then the left over fabric could be used to cut the inner half or quarter circles. That will be done with freezer paper!

That is correct. I can get 2 half circles from the leftover piece that remains after cutting the background piece.

hi I just watch the video and I’m wondering where you have posted the dimensions of the different squares and rectangles to make the blocks for month two. I am having trouble finding them. Thank you.

There is a separate TOPIC for each month, one for Questions, one for Photos. Scroll through the list on the BOM 2024 board to find the one you want.
The pattern says the size of each block, on the first page of each pattern. The center is 16.5” with seam allowance. Block 1 is 8.5” with seam allowance.

Here's my first try at preparing the block by using the templates and sewing by machine. I was reminded of my past garment sewing days. When sewing curves I usually stay stitched the curve first (not on this block) -- maybe that would help. Also I think I cut two of the curves on the cross grain and not the straight grain which caused the seam to pucker or roll. I am wondering if I should have ironed the seams differently--maybe the corners would have come out better. When I first finished it the puckers were worse so I sprayed it with Best Press, let it dry and pressed again. Much better but not perfect -- a little wonky? It is within a 1/16" of the 8-1/2 size. I'd appreciate any feedback. I'm going to try Barbara's method next and use the suggestion about putting interfacing on the curve before attaching. Learning a lot! Thanks everyone.

Jennifer C, You might be able to get rid of the wonky by blocking the block. I suggested that to Annette in month 1 and she
said it worked like a charm. This is screenshot of her post. It was month 1 Show your progress then Jan. 17. The way you got it wet works, then while wet you need to pin it to something like a foam board that has the exact size of the the block (8 1/2 inch square, marked on it. Pin every 1/4 inch. Let dry. If you mean Month 3, my blog will go up tomorrow, February 25, the LIVE will air March 1 and the pattern will be released no later than March 1.

Asking Month 2 Question: My easy button is using Print and Piece fuse light and hand applique for block curves in month 2 and will do the same for the petals in month 3 blocks. Blocks are trimmed to 8.5 inches and I am thinking now would be the time to give them a "gentle soak" to break down the fusible, or would do you think it better to wait until quilt is completed? Appreciate your input and perspective. Thank you.

In the past, Garden Party Down Under, my thought was to soak each block. After the second one ran like crazy I decided to wait. Glad I did and there was no problem machine quilting through the shapes. Quilt was washed when completely finished, bound, and with several color catchers in the wash.

My month 2 block is a wonkie 8”. Any suggestions to help make the blocks the correct 8 1/2”? I can’t add a border to make up the extra 1/4” around each side.

Check the 3 things we can do wrong in piecing a block: the cutting, sewing, and/or pressing. Try blocking the block to the correct size.

Jennifer, Did you follow the pattern or do Barbaras's version of the 9 patch with crescents appliqué?
If you can post a picture, I will see if I can come up with some work arounds. Post picture of front and back. HelenW

Starting late. I’m ready to do month 2. Where do I find Jen Kingwell notes? I only see page of template N.
