Well, I fell behind in month 10, but plan to catch up this month. I went with
little squares instead of the month 10 border. Felt I needed to calm down
the busy look. I did make a fish wall hanging, which is why I fell behind.
So I decided to put that picture in as well for what I did in month 10.

Alice, I got the fish and turtle line drawing patterns, from Susan Carlson, the famous collage quilter.
On her website she sell a number single item like one fish or turtle drawing (download it) for $5 each.
There are no instructions. I don't use her techniques, I just do raw edge applique and then some
couching and hand stitch embroidery on them. For the weeds and star fish, and crab I just google
the word with images behind it and there were lots of copyright free ones to pick from. Then I enlarge
them to the size I thought would look good. I had a friend longarm quilt the super nova panel before
I put any applique on it. I built the applique with steam a seam on parchment paper. Then ironed them to the panel and edge stitched them. I was
surprised how good it turned out. HelenW

Thanks Helen for the detailed information and guidance! Considering my current beginners level, I’ll keep the info and hold off until I’m better. Honestly just looking at your quilt makes me very happy already so thanks for sharing!

Good idea to calm down with the little squares. Like your dark background fabric.

I decided to strip piece windows and doors…. I know I’ll be much more accurate if I sew then cut.

Month 11. I actually had to shorten each border by about 1/2" But the center is together & my houses are ready & waiting. I have improved so much on choosing fabrics! Early in the year I would agonize over getting the perfect piece from my stash. Now I just try out a few and GO LOL

Thank you Carol. I just finished this border and have not attached the heart yet. It is now June 2024. I thought I had better check the forum before I move on. I saw your comment about the border being too long. I put mine on my display wall and mine are exactly 1/2” too long just as you said. I will now make a seam where the heart goes to shorten it and then attach the heart. Your comment saved me a lot of work! So glad I read the forum questions. Thank you again!

I love piecing even though I am not very accurate most of the time. Which is why I love Barbara's tip on the flying geese method, cut large and trim to perfection. As you can see from the trimmings...

I love "trimming to perfection"--that way, I know the pieces are the correct size before I do the next step.
I taught that concept in all 3 of my classes at Quilt Festival in Houston last week. The concept was well-received.

Month 11 completed. I think I have finally caught up to some of you. I'm am so amazed at all the people that have completed the project right down to having it quilted as well. Congrats you all of you. I'm now getting started on month 12. I too thank whoever is responsible for releasing the two months at once . . . . . It made things a little easier to figure out.
        Happy quilting ALL!

Skipped the second appliqué so I’d have a place for some pretty quilting. Used the same fabric from the appliqué daisies.

Susan M. Wish I had quilting skills that I wanted to showcase. Your the first one in many years on the forum that I have seen anyone do that, but I think it is a great idea. I sometimes have a friend of mine do longarm quilting on a wall quilt background and then
I do the applique over the top. I did a fish water scene wall hanging that way it turned out great. Your color palette is beautiful.
