this is about month 1. Was there a video on constructing the cabin? I didn't understand the instructions. Seemed incomplete.

There are videos for each month. There is a Forum Topic for Month 1--many questions have been asked and answered there. And my monthly blog provides additional help for each month. Here is the link to it. Follow the blog or look for each month's edition labeled Homeward Bound:

No template for the leaves? Are they the same as the ones for the Hollyhocks?

I wondered about that as well, until I actually started reading the instructions. Under cutting instructions, it mentions using the round leaf template from month 3, so yes, it's the same.

I don't want to do the HST method because I am going to use 1 color for the triangles. It looks like my flying goose should be unfinished 2.5" x 4.5" for the larger piece. Does that size sound right? The instructions don't give sizes for the individual units

Carol, The end size should be the same as if you were doing the HST. So I would saw yes you have it correct. HelenW

Yes, 2” finished half square triangles would make 4” x 2” FINISHED flying geese, 4.5” x 2.5” including seam allowances.

It's the B shape from Month 2 which is 7/8". I used my ScanNCut to cut 1 1/8" circles to have enough allowance for turning under. And yes to the leaves.

You mention on your blog that she demonstrates the leaf placement in her video, but the video only seems to cover the HSTs.

Sarah’s Month 3 Video shows the small leaf used in Month 5 as well. I have updated the blog. The Month 5 pattern says the leaf used in M 5 is the same as M 3.

Hi Barbara, the video for month 5 isn't working for me. I checked the other months and they won't come up either. I'm on a Mac computer.
        Thank you,

I too have a Mac computer, and lots of times the website makes me log in a second or third time
to get access to stuff. Like if I want to watch a show and I am already logged in. I get to the
show and it won't play. Then if I log in again when I am at the show it plays. If you try that and
it does not work I would go to support and fill out a troubleshooting ticket. Justin has solved a
number of issues for me. HelenW

Read the Fabric Requirements and Introduction document. It says fabric strips are cut width of fabric.

Is anyone else having this problem? I measured 1 1/2” from the bottom then again but when I put the 3 1/2” stem on it’s too short? Grrrr I can’t get the photo to load.

Thanks for the heads up on that. I will be cutting my bias stems to 4 1/2" so they end at 1" below the top edge. I marked my rectangles on that top edge to keep 1/2" clear since we will lose 1/4" when joining to the corner units. Then positioned the berry and measured the length from the center of the berry to the bottom edge of the rectangle.

I agree with Donna and cut mine at 4 1/2 inches as well. It is very obvious when you zoom in on the photos of the original quilt that 3 1/2 inches was a typo. Comparing what is next to that rectangle means it should be 4 1/2 inches. I saved the photos in my favorites folder so I can find them again and I zoom multiple times a month making comparisons.

I too am having trouble with the month 5 little bud rectangle. When using stems cut at 3 1/2" the berry sits very close to the top set of leaves. Also, it looks a lot closer than in the photo of Sarah's quilt. Maybe the stems should be longer??

Okay, this isn't a question - but talkin' to us who don't have the kit - am I the only one having trouble picking out the HST's colors/prints?!?! Geesh I keep changing my mind. I have a set palette of purple, teal, orange, and yellow and still, there are so many ways this can go!! May 7th, tick, tick, tick, the month is going by....I promised today was the day I would settle on the color placement!

Pick colors/prints you like and just do it. Everything works and in the end it will be fine.

Thanks Barbara! My smart husband reminded me that if I don't like the ones I picked...there is plenty of more fabric where that came from - lol

If you look at the first month printout showing the list of fabrics and what month those fabrics will be used, you can get a pretty good idea of what goes where. I marked all my fabric with a small post-it that shows the month a fabric is used. Hint: I have used a magnifying glass to really try to decipher the "correct" fabric. Hope this helps. It's not exact, but it will work.

Definitely! I decided to go with flying geese instead of 2 color HSTs. But now that those are sewed, the leaf fabric is giving me fits! I have lots of leaves I made but decided against.

NinaMarie, I took a screen shot of your beautiful center and put a border in using EQ8. I just went for a flying geese look instead
of HST. If you want me to audition some other ideas just let me know what you are thinking. HelenW
