Figuring out how many circles we really need
Barbara,
Here is my take on the circles for this quilt. If I had designed this I would have done it completely different and to make it easy for me I made a chart. Here it is for the hollyhocks.
Size 5/8" A: 13 for each 1/4 total 52. Use a few different colors in groups of 4
Size 7/8" B: 9 for each 1/4 total 36. Use a few different colors in groups of 3
Size 1 1/4" C: 1 for each 1/4 total 4. Use one color
Size 1 1/2" D: 4 for each 1/4 total 16. Use 2 colors in groups of 2
Size 2" E: 2 for each 1/4 total 8. Use 2 colors for each 1/4
That total 116 circles
For the remainder of the quilt you need 44 circles in size 7/8" B
8 dark pink, 8 medium blue, 4 yellow for center of blue flower and 24 medium pink for around star.
That totals 44 circles
Total circles for entire quilt is 160.
I know that is a lot of work but at least it will all be done and ready as we go.
According to the directions we have we only need 56 circles for the hollyhocks. Please check my math as I may be totally off. But I did count the patterns we were given and that is what I came up with. If you count the circles in the pattern which is 1/4 of the design and multiply it by 4 that is what I came up with.

You peaked my interest, so I went to the quilts section and brought up the photo of the quilt and counted. I too got 160 circles.
Your chart idea is great. HelenWHelenW
