I made my own bias tape using the clover tool. I had bought some steam-a-seam-2 sheets thinking I would appliqué with them for this block of the month but not sure I will go that route. Anyways. Mine came in printable sheets, and I simply cut the sheets in 3/16th" strips, which then fit in my bias tape tool. It is super simple and it saved me money! (The fusible sheets were half price from a Boxing Day sale!)

I remembering seeing somewhere how you machine application the stems on but can't find it anywhere. Would love to know what you did to machine embroider the stemsLast edited by Ann W.; 01-11-2023, 02:39 PM.Ann

I discussed machine appliqué for the stems on the Month 1 blog. I included a link to Alex ANDERSON’s class on machine appliqué:Originally posted by [email protected] View PostI remembering seeing somewhere how you machine application the stems on but can't find it anywhere. I machined appliqued my month 1 stems. I folded 1 side over. Then stitched the raw edge down on my fabric. Then I folded it and machine stitched the folded edge, using a spool of 100 wt thread I had on hand . I have not done much applique, but I could swear Alex mentioned during 1 of her Live projectsCarol in SW Michigan

I just finished making the do-ahead 8.5" and 14" bias stems. Oh my, not a fun task! I had made the Month 1 stems with my bias tape maker and wasn't thrilled with how they turned out. Hoping for better results I wanted to try the Hera marker method that Sarah showed in her video. So, I ordered a Hera marker. I anticipated an easy process but it was not. Of course, I started with following Sarah's method but I could not get the edges to fold in and stay. I ended using a hybrid process: Sarah's cut/mark and bias maker for the ironing. The pieces turned out nice but the edges wanted to relax so I cut and ironed on small strips of WonderUnder.

I experienced everything you did this time. I’ve not made much bias, especially no 1/4”. I ordered the Hera marker along with the Clover tool. Absolutely could not do the Hera method as edges refused to stay ironed. Used Clover and got good results, but still had wandering edges, though not as much. Next time I will still use the Clover tool and try starching the fabric more before cutting the strips and see if that does the trick….just a thought.
