The palette for my Enchanted Garden is going to be the spring board for my Garden Party Down Under. Going to have to start looking for little creatures to bring to the garden party. Might go with a bird or butterfly in each applique block. Can't wait for
the new year. Loved your Live yesterday Barbara. Really makes me want to get started. This is going to be really really fun.

Helen, your Enchanted Garden is beautiful. What appliqué technique did you use and which are you planning to use for your Garden Party Down Under?

Such a romantic palette! Your quilt will sparkle.

I was so excited when I watched the announcement about this beautiful quilt. It took me about 2 minutes to decide to order the kit, even though I have plenty of fabrics in my stash! The kit will encourage me to use more modern fabrics. My good friend and neighbor also ordered the kit. This morning I was awoken by my security system at 0602!! Someone was on my porch!!! I could see a van that looked like the mail logo....yes!!! It was my kit so fast!! The post office is living up to the poem about through dark of night!!

Thinking of using these fabrics for the new BOM. still considering background(s) but one option is the light fabric under the colors.

Thanks Donna, You have a really pretty stash you have pulled out. This morning I decided to go thru my bags of scraps and pull
any thing that I think might possibly work. Already I am getting so excited. I have a habit of making my quilts hardly recognizable to
the actual pattern. But I have so much fun doing it. I am not too much of a flower/vase type lady. More country tom boy,(can you still be a tom boy if you are in your early 70's???) so I will be heading in that direction. I bought a beige crackle for my background. And I already got a rusty looking watering can for my vase.

Lynnanne, Thanks for compliment on Enchanted Garden. I used raw edge fusible applique and I do a 1.0 - 1.0 zig zag stitch. Then
I like when I have time to couch DMC embroidery floss over the raw edge. For Garden Party Down Under I am open to all
ideas, I plan to use a variety of techniques, hopefully learning some new techniques as we go. But the normal "Go To" is
raw edge fusible with the really small zig zag. When I start a new project I use the pattern idea as a jumping off place.
I take favorites from patterns, book clip art etc.and just put in what really makes me happy with the way it looks. I am not one to stay true to the pattern. I always have fun. Here is a picture of my vase replacement (a rusty watering can) and the background
fabric that am using for the entire quilt. Be sure to post pictures of what you are doing. It is so much fun to see how everyone interprets how they want there Garden Party to look. HelenW

Thank you so much for your quick response and especially for your suggestions. I’m trying to plan my fabrics and wanted to use batiks so your ideas are a huge help. I’m way behind on Color My World and am racing to catch up! By the way, do you use the clear thread for your zig-zag? I like the couching idea and think I will try that too.

Helen I agree with your idea to modify the pattern to your liking. I plan on doing the same, mainly with the flower shapes, but other things too. Sometimes I use EQ8 to create applique shapes or even reinvent a whole block. I'll be doing turned edge applique and maybe throwing in some embroidery and embellishment too. Can't wait to get started!

Lynnanne, I usually try to match the thread color of the applique. If I don't have anything close I use the clear or smoke threads.
When I couch the DMC floss I usually try to go darker by several shades of the same color or lighter so the stitching shows up
as an outline. When I am making my applique, I take scraps of the fabric I use and put it on a thread audition practice piece.
That way I see if I like what I chose. I am hoping to do some hand embroidery that I am learning in Alex's class on this quilt too.

So getting excited for this BOM to start. I am quilting Color My World while a wait on my domestic machine.
My plan is to use light to medium grays for background, bright colors for flowers and medium fabrics for my vases. Had fun yesterday going thru my stash.
I have watched all the appliqué shows,GREAT information and plan on trying different techniques.
look forward to sharing with this group! So fun to have a group to learn from and get answers so quickly.
                Happy Quilting! Happy New Year!

Eileen, Looks like your choice of fabrics will make a great looking garden party quilt. Lucky you to have taken a zoom class from
Irene Blanck. Did you take after finding out that she was doing the TQS BOM, or had you already known about her and just signed up for a class. What was it about? HelenW

Irene is a member of The Applique Society and the class was through them. (I'm also a member)
She taught her Matilda block, which I hope to make. She is such a warm, encouraging person; she taught us some techniques I didn't think of prior to taking the class.
