Starting outside road and making it country

Even though I am still edge stitching my houses and tree I have the urge to keep working my design.
Going with a brown dirt road, vintage pick up trucks and wildlife and trees . I will keep evolving as I go.
Having a lot of fun with this project. HelenW

This a deep end of the pool creation. I’m still clinging to the side of the pool in the shallow end. Someday, I will need to let go and swim to your end of the pool! Awesome interpretation of the pattern.

Thank you for the compliment. I usually like a pattern, but always like to put my favorite things into it so it becomes
a Helen type quilt. Right now I am into flannel, so I decided to do raw edge applique instead of paper foundation piecing
due to the bulk of flannel. I wanted a wall hanging so I reduced it to 60%. I take my favorite things like on the compass I put an
eagle landing in a tree, because we have a tree we call the eagle tree in the bay. I added water and grass instead of the
first road, and put some fish in the water. We live where there is a lot of wildlife so I am adding moose, elk, deer and bear.
The road is dirt brown flannel. The trees are the many evergreens in this area. I just let my ideas evolve as I go. I don't try to
              plan it out. HelenW

Carole B It is so nice to know you can always learn something from a rookie. I gave back stitch a try, and thoroughly enjoyed
it. Will be trying another new hand stitch soon. Thanks for being such an inspiration. Here is a picture of my back stitch moose. HelenW

That looks great, Helen! Did you do the outline freehand or trace it onto something like press’nseal? Well done! I’m starting to draw out my trees and want to work in bullion knots, which I’ve never done. Just tried a few tests. This will take some practice!

Carole B. I traced the moose on white fusible stabilizer and fused it to the back side. I drew in the tree and cat tails also on the stabilizer. I look at the back side when I stitch then the right side to butt the stitch up. Slow but it works.
Can't wait to see you your bullion knots. My next stitch is going to be the pekinese stitch since it is just weaving in and out of
the back stitch. I have some Ricky Tims Razzle Dazzle that I bought years ago to do bobbin work, but did not end up like
the technique so I still have the thread. It will be perfect for weaving in and out because it won't cause the fraying from pulling it
thru fabric. Bet the pekinese stitch would look good along the edge of the trees too, if the bullion knots don't work out.

I was not familiar with her, so thanks for sharing! Beautiful work! Made me think of how I first started with crewel work while in high school decades ago! This was my first large project that now hangs in my craft room.

Carol B, Here is book that is on my need to get list. When I saw her butterflies on wool with the fabulous stitching my jaw just
dropped open. I would love to learn those techniques. Love your crewel work. Another technique I know nothing about, but looks
like it would be wonderful to have in my tool box. HelenW
