    Quilting the roof

Is the quilting on the roof of the houses made before sew the houses together?

    #2
I think the quilting in the pictures of the pattern were a part of the quilting by the longarm person that did Wendy's quilt.
If you want to have the look of the stitching on the roof without having the whole quilt under your sewing machine if you
plan to quilt it yourself, I would do it while the pieces are small, so much easier. It would be an embellishment. That is what I am doing. HelenW

Thank you for your answer. I am just concerned with the house shrinking as Galeanda said.

Helen, do you need to use a stabilizer if you are doing the quilting embellishment before quilting the whole quilt?

No, all the quilting you see in the color photos on each pattern was done when the quilt was finished.

I would be concerned about the houses shrinking a little if I quilted them too early. It's safer to wait and quilt when all those little parts are sewn together. I could see embellishing the fabric before cutting out the pieces and sewing each section but leave the quilting for the end.

        Yes, that is a good point. I don't have a longarm .
        Thank you for yr advice.

I think you're right; just realized that if I quilt each house a lot there will be shrinkage. Good Point!

Paola, I did use a fusible woven stabilizer on the back before I embellished my houses on the background. For the houses
before putting on my background, I just used parchment paper to stablize the stitching on the doors and windows and then ripped it off. I am doing flannel fabric with raw edge appliqué at 60% the original size. I put the stabilizer on the entire back area of my whole cloth
wall hanging. I have been having all kinds of problems getting comments and pictures on the new site. HelenW
