    Yardage for background

This is my first real quilt and I am excited to begin. I want to change the fabric pieces that go between the roofs of the small houses and the "sky" pieces above the tall buildings. I have a different fabric in mind for that area. How do I determine the correct yardage for these areas? I am going to use a different outside border as well and I can calculate the necessary amount for that easily. I would like any suggestions you may offer.

Marsha, there was a Topic about this way back when, here is the link to it:

    https://thequiltshow.com/forum/bom-2021-color-my-world/9285-how-to-use-two-different-background-fabrics#151663

Instructions for the outer border call for cutting 7 strips width of fabric (WOF) x 5"==that takes about one yard. If you prefer to cut borders on the lengthwise straight of grain you would need a 2 yard piece to cut 4 strips 5" x 72" or so. The rest of the two yards could be cut into backgrounds.

I am also interested in the amount for each section of the background and this link doesn't seem to work. Could you please check it
I kind of wish all the information on yardages for people who want to use their stash was available in one place. I am finding it a bit confusing because I get one piece of info in passing from one video, another from another video or something from the blog and then I can't remember which video I saw it in. I know the pattern has the info on what size pieces to cut for houses but is there any place where yardages for backgrounds which require more fabric are written down - I'd hate to start and then find I don't have enough fabric

Here is the Topic you are looking for:

        https://thequiltshow.com/forum/block...ground-fabrics

it was never my plan to redesign this quilt, Wendy did a fine job. I was trying to be helpful for those wanting to use their stash and didn’t have 4.25 yards of one.

my suggestion is to write down the location of important info you see when you see it if you don’t want to Search for it again. I had no trouble going back a page in the 2021 BOM topics to find this.

I would like to know how tall the small house pieces are supposed to be. I would also like to buy 1/4 yard of Art History 101 background fabric as my Mariner's compass has turned out to be 13 inches in diameter and it is my understanding that it should be 14.5 inches. I guess my solution to this problem will be to add 1 1/2 inches of "front yard" between the compass and the small houses.

Measure your pattern pieces to figure out the size. I don’t know any source for buying Art History 101. The Quilt Show store only has it as part of the total kit.
