    Edgestitch Foot—Thanks!

Those of us who find the Edgestitch Foot to be a huge help in Freezer Paper foundation piecing, often say “thanks to whoever mentioned this”.

The first post came from Cindyaziah, who called it the “stitch in the ditch” foot. Sewmarti clarified the Bernina is called the Edgestitch Foot:

Huge thanks to both—this foot is perfect for this method!

Barbara are you using the dual feed with the 10D? If so, does it interfere with this method of piecing?

I agree. It was a game changer.

A special thank you for the Edge Stitch foot tip. My eyesight for close up work is poor and I was very concerned that I would not be able to use the freezer paper method. This presser foot makes all the difference.

thank you - do we need to move the needle to the right?

No, needle stays in center. Keep your eye on the guide, needle follows right behind.

Does anyone know the difference between the Bernina #5 foot and #10 foot? The #5 foot is listed as “Blindstitch foot” but looks similar to the Edgestitch foot.

The #5 has a edge that goes across the opening of the foot. I have taken a photo of both. One on right is #5. Hope it is clear enough.

Thanks! I can see the difference, but I think my #5 should do the job.

If you have a machine that recognizes what foot is on the #5 will go automatically into zig zag mode because it thinks you're doing a blind hem stitch. I put #5 on with a single needle faceplate and it took me 2 broken needles before I realized the machine switch from straight stitch to zig zag automatically. I recently bought a used Bernina Artista 730 and this is a new feature for me.
