I made one house with clouds. Unless you fussy cut the pieces to orient them so they are end up being hofizonal you'll end up with the background lines going in directions you may not like. I choose a sky blue solid for small house sky/background. I didn't want to take the time to get my clouds going in the direction I wanted them to go.

If you get your fabric in February, you can do the houses. They are addictive so in two days you can finish them. I could do one in 30 minutes or less once I had everything cut up. Then if you change your mind about the Mariners compass do it again.
I can't wait till the next pattern is displayed. I am thoroughly enjoying this. Thanks for all you do!!!!

I did purchase the Art History 101 yardage-- they call it canvas, but it is a lightweight canvas and I don't see that it should be a problem. Check out Missouri Star Quilt co. . My local quilt shop had it, so I went there to feel the fabric, as the word canvas scared me UNTIL I felt it. Then I knew it would work.

[quote="cmannconso" I found out where I got this idea that. you need 1/3 of yard for the mariners compass. It was post #151663; I won't repost it because I don't want to confuse anyone. I just did a search for two background fabrics and found it.

My mistake! So sorry for the confusion. There is a LOT of info here and it can be hard to find what we think we remember we saw. I use the Search box, that usually helps me find things.
Thanks--let's all carry on!

I just received my kit and bought my background fabrics (2). I am so busy with my guild I haven't had time to wash my fabrics. But I'll get that done this weekend. I'm going to put the dark/night half way around and the light the other half. The light is daylight with clouds. I've attached dark. I think it will fun.

I have ordered mine from there, however it does not arrive i stock until 25th January. Make aure you do not order the canvas as they have both that and the cotton. They have been very helpful at The ParchworkCo. The canvas has "c" at the end of the SKU number.
I probably won't get my order until week into February as it has to be posted to New Zealand. Someti es that can be quick so am hoping that will be the case this time.

I have just discovered after completing 2 small house #1 that my background fabric must be cut lengthwise and not selvage to selvage. It's called "Weather Permitting" Clouds and I find the clouds are going north to south and not east to west. Now to decide to take these apart and redo "j" and "k".

Libbi, I hope you did not use the speed cut for the background if you want your clouds to run east/west. I would take a piece of the cloud fabric, lay it on the house the way you
want it to look. lay the template on top of the fabric, in alignment with the clouds. Put a pin it and then you can cut them to go the way you want because you will ;have the correct orientation. I had to do that with a couple
pieces on my Afternoon Delight border, paper pieced flying geese. It worked. HelenW
