    Trees

I know the trees are to come, however just wondering if they are appliqué? I’m using my stash up so my houses are rainbow solids however I’m trying to avoid having the same colored house and tree together so knowing whether they are appliqué will give me more flexibility. Totally understand if I need to wait to find out too. Cheers!

Ames Love your bright houses! Barbara has mentioned in previous posts that the trees are applique. The kit has the black bias for the tree trunks and greens for the tree half circle like shapes. With how dark your beautiful background is,you might want to pick something with more contrast than black. Isn't this a fun project? HelenW

Ames, you posted this under Alex Anderson's Classroom, not the Block of the Month Category. I moved it here.

The trees are applique, turned edge or raw edge, you decide. They are done in Month 4.

Thanks HelenW. I decided to use up my stash and had just enough of the background fabric for the quilt and am so happy with how it’s turning out. I must have missed it in the previous post. I’m actually thinking of ditching the trees all together.... hmy:

Ames. If you ditch the trees all together you won't have those green half circle tree tops that add such
Interest to the quilt. I really like the band they make . Maybe you could change your trees to clouds and

Ames, I too love your starry galaxy fabric. It is perfect for your quilt. It will have a lot of presence in the quilt if you are using it for background of the Mariner Compass and the the outside band of buildings and borders. Since it reads like a somewhat dark value, are you still planning on having black roads next to it? HelenW

I will be using the galaxy in all the backgrounds. That’s a good point, I’ll just have to test road colours and see, maybe a charcoal rather than black road might work. I can’t wait until next month to see what’s next!!

Hello! Barbara you mentioned that we could machine appliqué the green tree tops if we wish. If I use a fusible appliqué method ( I.e misty fuse) do I need the extra 1/4” that is recommended for needle turn. I would blanket stitch my edges.

I like a turned edge so I add fusible up to the 1/4 seam allowance then turn the edge under. You can do raw edge appliqué with fusible right to the edge and use a decorative stitch if you like. The seam allowance would not be added on that case.
