Thank you. I am prepared for mistakes. My forte is probably making mistakes! I have done both paper piecing and raw edge appliqué and some freezer paper appliqué, but never such a large project.

Helen, I use Illustrator to draw the designs. I do have EQ8 but haven't done the Polydraw either. I'm combining 2 wedges for the corners. The quilt will be a 28" circle before it is set in a square which may be 32". I haven't decided on a finished size yet.

Thanks Helen, for giving me an idea. Since I'm using an 1/8" scale, I can draw the individual houses in EQ starting as rectangles. I may have to use 1/16" scale for placing some of the lines. Or I could draw them twice the size and use a 1/4" and 1/8" scale. I know the top and bottom measurements for drawing the angle. Then I can color them and print each individual block, cut them to size and arrange them in a circle. I will be able to see the finished results without sewing a single seam! And I can recolor them as many times as needed until I get what I want. First I will have to import my fabrics. Not today though.

Paper mock up of half circle: I have been wavering back and forth between applique or paper pieced. It will be at 60%. My 100 % had a perfect 1" square to check size.
I set my printer to 60% and made a bunch of copies. I cut and taped them together matching side wedge sewing lines. I laid it on the cutting mat. And my half circle is not
a half circle. Yikes. I have to leave for errands right now, but this makes me really nervous for all the people making wedges. Do you see from this screenshot that I might
have done wrong? I did find that house one and house 2 was 1/16 inch off across the bottom lines if you matched at the top. HelenW

Has it been determined that Small Houses 3 and 4 are the same size? If they are larger, that would make up the difference possibly.

Helen, when the patterns are scaled down, from the original pattern, remember the seam allowance is included there so you have scaled that down too.

My engineer husband agreed with my thought that a problem could develop because of that. So, I wrote a few days back that anyone adjusting the pattern has to be prepared to make adjustments if they don't get a complete circle or their circle is too big. Perhaps making trees wider, etc. I cannot fix that.

I know the original pattern fits the roads as it must. If changing the original, you probably have to fudge and adjust throughout.

Thanks, Barbara. When I measure House 1 and 2 at the bottom of the finished edge, they come out to be:

House 1 = 1 13/16 or 1.8125
House 2 = 1 23/32 or 1.71875

This is a difference of 0.09375 or 3/32 with House 2 being narrower.

Should both houses be the same width at the bottom? If so, which is the correct measurement?

The lower edge of Small House 1 and 2 and 3 and 4, not including seam allowances, are about 1.75". That is close enough, no reason to work with any measurements beyond 1/8"s. These patterns are hand drawn so there may be slight variations. And I did not take into account that lower edge is slightly curved, I measured straight across..

I purposely don't want to give these kind of measurements because that leads some to agonize over if theirs are "exact' enough. If that happens here, I will just take my reply down.

Barbara, I made my paper half circle by taping sewing line to sewing line as if the 1/4 inc seam allowance was sewn. I always add the full 1/4 inch sewing line around the perimeter of a unit so it will fit together properly. I know we often have to use fudge factors to make things fit. I am not worried about me, I can make adjustments, but I hope others
won't get in a tizzy if they put their 32 units together and they come out short. I might make a paper half circle of original size and see if it is closer to 180 degrees.

This is bad. You can't fudge in this big a difference IN A CIRCLE. It will never lie flat no matter how much you block it.

Helen, place house 1 on house 2 and trim to the same size to see if that works. Obviously the sample quilt was made with the templates so they must work. The larger the quilt the easier it is to ease in differences. Decreasing the size seemed to make the difference greater. It's easy enough to take a slightly larger seam at the lower side edge to get an exact circle. I would sew 8 together at a time when doing the assembly and if they make a quarter circle everything is good. If they don't, make adjustments before sewing the 4 sections together.

I’m fine with that (other than maybe needing more wool felt than I ordered), but I’m guessing since I’m doing hand appliqué, the houses may be more spread out. I can always add some trees or bushes to fill in. Just weird. Houses won’t be attached to my whole cloth background until we get the roads, so it’s a waiting game.

This is my first ever quilt, so I’m flying blind, but definitely appreciate this supportive community of talented people. Thanks for putting up with all my questions and concerns!

Thinking ahead to Month 2 only because I am one of those quilters that like to build a circular quilt from the center out. And yes, I do love changing it up!!!
I like quilters to think to themselves, Oh, That is a Wendy Williams pattern, but I never have seen THAT ONE. Makes me smile just to think about it.
So,Going back to Month 2. The mariner compass has the road around it. I was at first thinking I would change the color of those black sections to greens and make
them lawns for my small houses. Then I started looking at Mariner Compass quilts and really like these three add ons beyond the compass. They are in a pattern
by Lessa Siegle. I will be auditions lots of ideas. I already plan to make a multi colored compass. HelenW
