No, this is a pretty scrappy quilt. If the two backgrounds are similar, it will be fine. Some are using one background for the Small Houses and Mariner's Compass and a different, but similar one for the Tall Buildings and outside--even a third fabric for the outside border will work. That doesn't have to be decided before Month 12

One way to work thru color ideas is to google tiny house quilts. With Covid keeping people home, seems like house quilts are real popular. It is amazing how different you can
make the overall feel of the quilt by your fabric selection color and solids and prints. I took a couple screen shots just to show you what I mean. I think I am going to take
my time deciding which way to go. Maybe a few samples the first month before purchasing my major amount of fabric. Plan to do a lot of looking at little house quilts in the next few weeks. HelenW

Hi Jillypea. Ellenceleste in post#152056 in this same thread has a picture of her fabric selections. She picked small prints. I think they look really happy when they all combine together. Remember this is your quilt. Your choices.

I am thinking about using a winning combination of fabrics that I used doing Over and Down Under. It would give the world a folk art look. Totally different than the world
that is super bright solids. Not committing. Just thinking and might draw up a sample. Screen shot is the color palette in the Over and Down Under quilt.

I wasn't planning to play in the BOM this time but there's just something about this quilt! Not being a collector of solids, I clicked on Hancock's of Paducah's recent sale notice. Two "grab bags" of Kona Solids ($19.95 each) arrived today - two days after order was placed with standard shipping!
One bag was medium to dark and one was light to medium (someone was looking out for me?). Eighteen different fabrics (no duplicates). Total yardage just under 12 yards with none less than 1/3 (and only 2 at that). Most were at least 1/2 and four were full yards. Lucked out with a pair of blues that will work for the Mariner's Compass and a pair of greens for the trees. I do plan to add some deep purples but otherwise I'm set. (I'd post a photo but they're in the wash!)

If anyone else out there is in need of a lot of different solids, it may be worth a look. - https://www.hancocks-paducah.com/HOP-Kona-Solids-Grab-Bag-Mystery-Remnant-Pack?quantity=1&custcol_tt_itemoption_decimals=1

Not sure I’ve done that properly Barbara! I wanted Helen’s quote on top, not mine as well.

Thank you Helen W. I’m not afraid of colour and have quite a good stash I just wondered if all the seams would be less visible using small prints rather than solids, I probably need to make some samples to see. I think I’ll take it slowly too to start with.

Awibur, I won't be using silks. Never tried them, although I really like the way a lot of the quilts made with silks look. Every morning I seem to have another idea
pop into my head. This morning I was thinking. I might just Color My World like a folk art quilt. Thinking I might make a sample of a block or two from flannel with
with a dark background.Folk art looks so warm and cosy. I know applique will work its way into my quilt. It alway does. Even though the houses give the impression of applique, and the trees are applique,
I am thinking my road might turn into a path of flowers, like one of Wendy Williams quilts that look a little like this in that there is a circle and she used flowers in place of what would be the road. I also am thinking if my houses are folk art, the outside border might have animals roaming around it like Kim McLean uses a lot in her quilt patterns. Jillypea.
I am glad to hear you are not afraid of color. You might want to take a look at Kim Mclean's patterns to see a beautiful explosion of bright colors. She even has a house quilt. HelenW

Someone asked about a coloring book version to try out different colors. I pulled the image off TQS and made it black and white and adjusted the contrast a bit. You may be able to color over the greyed out houses or more easily trace a new image from this after you print it.

(I also attached the file since I don't think you can print from within my message.)

Wendy, I had the same thought to use a black and white image of the quilt to create a coloring page—good job. Thanks for doing this for those who want to plan their colors in advance.
