There were no instructional videos for Afternoon Delight. My blog provides all the extra help that was offered. Usually the first of each month the blog pertains to the Block of the Month.Originally posted by "LindaPiepenburg55" post=153170I'm late on doing this, but I have the pattern for Afternoon Delight and am going to do the 2021 block of the month as well. My question is are any of the instructional videos for Afternoon Delight available to watch. I haven't been able to find them.

I watched some very good instructions on the show that introduced the BOM in November 2019 - just watched it this weekend - Show 2601? I guess that was the only one, but I found it helpful and am inclined to go ahead and try it after watching that. Seems like it could be a stash buster. I will check your blog for additional help. There were no instructional videos for Afternoon Delight. My blog provides all the extra help that was offered. Show 2601 was the Introduction Show that first aired January 1, 2020 to kick off the year. My blogs are to supplement the designer’s pattern instructions.Originally posted by "MissingOxygen" post=153207I watched some very good instructions on the show that introduced the BOM in November 2019 - just watched it this weekend - Show 2601? When I want to do quilting in the blocks I first stitch in the ditch all along the rows, just as I constructed the top. This stabilizes the top and allows many of the pins to be removed.
Do as much or as little as you like.

Lynnanne, In the double nine patch, did you press any seam lines open. It is not good to stitch in the ditch if the seams were pressed open. The only thing holding the two pieces together is te thread. If you are stitching in the ditch on the thread your needle can break that thread and cause holes in your seam . After you answer if you pressed seams open. I can give you a few ideas on how much ditching you should do.Originally posted by "Lynnanne" post=153345A question about the quilting fo Barbara or Helen or anyone else. How much stitching in the ditch should we do? I always have trouble with deciding how much to quilt and what designs to use and then end up not finishing at all.
You are way ahead of me on Afternoon Delight I am only 2/3s done piecing. HelenW
Adding on, since I have the time. Density of quilting should be about the same all over the quilt.
If you outline the applique blocks, you could stitch in the ditch of all seams making the large nine patch and call it good for quilting those blocks. Or, if you pressed seams open, you could stitch a X over each 2 1/4
Inch area and call it good. You want to do a stitch pattern where there are not stops and starts if possible. If my comments bring up other questions in your mind. Just post them.HelenW

Lynnanne, Two things about ditch stitching that are helpful: One, use the ditch stitching foot. Two always stitch on the side away from the direction the seam was pressed.Originally posted by "Lynnanne" post=153370Ok thank you. Your quilts always look so well done. I have a hard time keeping in the ditch and getting the stitches not to show especially when the blocks are all different colors (although obviously not the case on this quilt).
And it you don't want to be changing thread colors to match the piece then use clear thread or smoke thread. Superior is my favorite. HelenWHelenW

Thank you Helen! No, the seams won't be pressed open...actually I have about 10 more nine patches to go and then I will start sewing them together. I will definitely use your suggestions for quilting and mostly stitch in the ditch I think. Otherwise I will never get it finished. I like the clear thread suggestion although on this quilt white will be fine. I live in Italy and have never seen Superior Threads here but I have been able to order Apliquik clear thread and it works fine although I am not much of an expert! I have to adjust the tension to get the stitches right. About stitching around the appliqué, how close to the appliqué do you stitch...right next to it, or more of an echo? Thanks for your helpI can't wait to see your quilt. You always have original ideas and it’s nice that you pass them on.

LynneAnne, The clear Superior thread recommends you turn your top tension way down. I go from 4.6 default on my really old Husqvarna to 2.3. Then it stitches fine. Otherwise
it is a mess and breaks. Do you plan to quilt on a regular sewing machine, or do you have a longarm or mid arm? I am quilting in sections the Marti Michelle method.
I have never done it, but I bought her book, and have watched her video on Craftsy showing how to do it.
Another question, do you free motion, or are you planning to use regular sewing machine stitching with the feed dogs up?
For the applique you can do either, stitch right next to the outside outline of the applique or echo stitch at about 1/4 inch. Another possibility if you have more time, is
to stitch close to edge, then do a larger meandering in the white background. That would look really pretty.
I have one panel almost put together the size I plan to quilt. Then you connect the quilted panels. That is what Marti Michelle's technique does.
Don't know if my plan will work, but somehow it will get done.

Good idea Helen. I have watched her class before and I"m watching again now. I'm planning to do the other setting but I still have to figure out how I want to do the borders as I just finished the nine patches finally! Probably just white borders so I can use the fabric I have...or maybe something more intricate like yours so it will be awhile before I get to the quilting but luckily you suggested quilting in sections! I have a Pfaff Quilt Expression that has a little more throat space so I think I will do the appliqué blocks how you suggested and stitch in the ditch the nine patches. Good luck on yours...it’s really pretty,!
