After reading Barbara blog on month 2, I thought to myself, take the time to read what Sue wrote. At the end of the first paragraph
on month 2 Sue wrote:" Why quilt blocks were named Shoo fly blocks is a mystery to me." So by googling that phrase I came up with
one person opinion on it. They said it was also called the hole in the barn door. By using different color placement you get a hole in the
    middle.

I tried to post this using my phone but couldn't so I am trying to do it on the computer and then add my pictures after. I am doing a Lori Holt BOM and thought I could use her technique to do block #5 and it worked perfectly.

I take 2 light purple blocks and 2 dark purple blocks all 4 in square. I make a 4 patch out of them and press seams open. I use Misty-fuse on the back of my block. then I apply the pattern using freezer paper to the front, lining up the Horizontal and Vertical lines to the pattern to the 4 patch. Press, when cool, cut out shape and press onto the background square, lining up the Horizontal and Vertical lines that you have press onto the background, then add the center flower portions.

              Heather7 - that's a great idea for reverse applique.
