Back of Block No. 9 - any help please?
This is the back of my March Block No. 9........I'm not loving the look of it at all!!
I inverted one of the strips of flying geese, thinking that the central joins would nest together better this way. Pressing the joining seam of the two sections of flying geese to one side of that central seam - no matter which side - was quite dreadful. I figured pressing the seam open would be more satisfactory. The picture says a thousand words and I'm anything but happy with the result. I'm still left with very "clunky" joins. I hoped that "twirling/furling" might work.......alas, no. I'm at a loss to know how I might be able to resolve this issue and would be most grateful for any assistance.
With thanks in advance............

Barbara,
Thank you so much for your response to my query. I did go ahead with the next two of those blocks and they're not quite so bad to look at. The fronts are OK and lying flat (a slight spray with a liquid starch helped), so I guess I'll just have to live with the way the backs look!

Barbara, I'm just working on these. The Flying Geese blocks (paper pieced) turned out really nice after several sessions with my friend Jack, but I kept learning, and it got better by the time I was on the 4th or 5th strip. Anyway, I think you flipping the strips in opposite directions is a great idea - haven't sewn those seams yet but I think the cross seams will nest better. Another thing I thought of, if I had realized it, would be to have one set of the strips pressed 'upwards' while paper piecing, and the other strips flipped down and pressed, which would make them nest - and have both strips facing the same direction.
Having fun anyway. Will post pictures soon.

Primrose, with paper piecing it would be pretty hard to go "backwards", from the top down, to get the seam allowances to nest in opposite directions. I did turn the flying geese strips in opposite directions so the seams nest. Whatever works...
