    Blanket Stitching

I really can not see from the images but did you just go around the outside of the letters with the stitching? Or did you "cross-over" parts with stitching as if it was following the way you would write the letter? I hope you understand what I am trying to say...it would be especially obvious on the letter "D" where two sections of the letter meet.

There was some discussion about this very thing on this forum topic: http://forum/bom-2014-a-z-for-ewe-an...triangle-ruler

And, you can see Janet's original stitching on her Zoom Quilt: see-quilts/zoom-quilts/

I am really slow getting going on this. I thought I would start the blanket stitching, but the size of stitching that Janet suggests is so small and messy looking in the double blanket. I am trying to use Isacord. Is that my problem? Maybe I should use a single blanket stitch, but it is still such a teeny tiny stitch!!! What have some of you done?

I think the best thing to do is to do a few tests to see what looks good with your Isacord thread. I have used Rainbows thread throughout for mine with a double blanket stitch, 2.5 for both length and width reducing to 2.0 for the narrower areas. But really, I think you have to do what you find nicest. Maybe you will find a single blanket stitch more pleasing. I hope that helps.

Thanks, Rita. I was worried that to use a 2.5 width would overpower the letter. I am off to do more experimenting.

I have decided to do a single blanket stitch with a length of 2.0 and a width of 2.3. I think it looks pretty good.

I am so glad that you have sorted it out to your satisfaction Mary. Good luck with it.

I am using(on my Viking) a 1.5 width and 1.5 length. Mine is a single which hold the letters where I want them(also, I am doing the half-size). I am going back and doing a stretch stitch around the outside of the letters to have a little more thread there. Good luck with your experimentation.

I am using king tut for the blanket stitch 2.0 x 2.0. The double blanket was too heavy so I using the single and played with length and width until it looked right. It is a variegated "kids colors" and is working well with the depression fabrics.
