Oh, I was busy moaning and groaning (maybe I picked that up from Kate  ) that I forgot to tell you that the quilt I did with the Lea McComas' class won a blue ribbon in the Fine Arts division! :P

Oh Ritzy, big hugs! Congratulations on your win! And your story about Kate made me laugh until I had tears streaming down my face, so some good has come from it all!

Ritzy, congratulations on your win and have to tell, your story brought back memories of working with my DD's girl scout troop. I'm still chuckling. Take care, Pat

It was meant to entertain ladies so I am glad you can relate and it made you smile.

Ritzy, you are a true entertainer. That said I consider you the most wonderful grandma, one could ask for. Where else should she learn that bad behavior does not pay off (even if it did this year)? Make those rules for next year and make her follow them - or else no help from grandma. In the end you will gain her respect. Hugs from

Take heart Ritzy I went through that two years ago with my DGD she was 11, I was heartbroken with the way she spoke to me and the language I phoned and got her dad out of bed after working all night and crying told him he had to come and get her. Right after that she changed and became human, now she is such a delight to be around. They do grow up now I am so proud of her. She hasn't come back to quilting yet I have to wait for that one. Ritzy, I give you a(virtual) Grand Champion Ribbon for Patience and Perseverence. (That's spelled wrong, but you know what I mean!) Anyway, you were being a wonderful grandma. I would have just told her if she didn't want to do it, fine, I wouldn't help her. Then I would have sent her home to think about it. I think the contract for next year sounds good. She will have matured a little by then and be in a better frame of mind.
Congratulations on you portrait quilt. I will have to look for a picture of it in the classroom show and tell.

well, I just typed out half a paragraph and it wasn't there...where did it go? You gals are fast-chatters. Hard to keep up.

Just to say I love your story, Ritzy, you ARE a GRAND grandma, and congrats on winning. My Gdaughters are only two, so I have a while to listen to those who have older ones, like Lorchen and Ritzy...

I have offered to teach my aimless niece how to sew - she is 23 and lives at home, isn't working or looking, and doesn't know what to do when she grows up. My brother says he is only going to pay her education once. That's been done. She is very creative and artsy, but she said she is too busy to learn how to sew, although it might be a great thing.... I said ' you have no job, no educational commitments - why are you so busy ? Her answer: " My social life!"

Need I say my brother is getting restless? and about to retire? Some chooks just don't know when to leave the nest.

Oh my. Ritzy and Terrie you are both to be commended for trying. My granddaughter is almost four but we haven't started any craft lessons yet! I did raise four daughters and know they can definitely show some attitude at times!

                            Congratulations on your win Ritzy!

Thanks ladies. I did, in fact tell Kate that if she didn't want to work, I would take her home. That is what is so frustrating--she wanted to be there, with me helping her. When her mom told her she was going to work with grandma on her project, she wanted to know which one. When she found out it was me and not my mom--she cheered.

Incidentally, Kate's mom was and is the QUEEN of attitude. Five foot three inches of attitude. So, it isn't like I didn't know how to handle it--it was wanting to make memories with this child and having them turn out to be horrendous. But she did say thank you and I love you before she left me so who knows what was really going on in her head.

Terrie, sometimes, if we press submit at the same time as someone else, we lose the race. Try going "back".

I heard somewhere it was the job of teenagers to be so obnoxious that their parents want them to leave home, and the job of parents to be so obnoxious that the kids want to leave home. It worked in my house LOL. I told them if they weren't in school & lived at home, they had to pay rent.

We get along great now & I look forward to spending time with them
