Thanks Margo. Not sure they will ship to Ireland but have made the enquiry. Great prices per yard!

Rita, I just saw this note from Suzanne on her MQR web site:

Also, this is posted on the home page of the shop, but I've disabled International shipping from the shopping cart. If you are interested in purchasing something and you are outside of the US, send me an e-mail with the item numbers/quantities and I can give you a quote on the shipping.

Thanks Margo, I emailed Suzanne with a list of fabrics I wanted to buy but the shipping was ridiculous - not her fault it's just that that was what USPS quoted her - it was approximately double what the fabric cost. I will just have to do without. Truth be told I have more fabric at the moment than I can use but like threads I can never have enough! Rita.

But Rita is in Ireland, not the US. You sometimes think they send the stuff first class on a private jet, accompanied by especially composed music and wrapped in 18 carat gold foil.

Shipping from the US to Europe has exploded over the last few years. If it continues like that, we might as well fly over ourselves and shop in person.

And in case if anybody wonders why us Europeans are still checking out fabric in the US: Some shops here in England have increased their prices per metre (10% more than a yard) to about £16..... Ouch!

              For what it's worth.....

              Today's exchange rate is: 1 British pound = 1.5624 U.S. dollars

              one yard + 10% = 39.6" (one metre)

              16 pounds = $24.9984 / metre

And £16 = €18.62. And that's how much we pay for a yard of fabric here in one of the two shops that sell fabric in Dublin.
Postage from the US has become prohibitive in the last year. Fortunately for me my DH was in San Diego in May of this year and brought me back a suitcase full of fabrics - he spent a morning in Rosie's Calico Cupboard choosing them and chatting up the women! I was very pleased with the haul as I am limited to one fabric shop in Dublin and though it's great I have to make an appointment to go there as it is in a quilters home not a store. Oh woe is me

Hey, Rita, has your husband got an older brother??? I know plenty of quilters whose husbands go to the US a lot on business, and none of them is willing to go fabric shopping. Yours is a gem!!

Sadly Lorchen my DH is an only child but you are right he is a gem! He told the ladies in the store that he wanted to go home a hero - it worked!
