Well, I happened to be white-gloving at Nashville last August -- in the Ricky Tims Studio exhibit (lucky me!!!) -- and along came Marilyn with some friends. I took the opportunity to talk w/her about SRV, and she said she's a huge fan of his. She introduced me to one of her group, who is a blues singer in Knoxville.
It was a great show, and that just topped it all off!

Hmmm, Celtic Woman has been a recent favorite here while I am quilting. Usually what I do though is turn on the ITunes on my 'puter and just let it run through my purchased list - I think right now I am up to over 9 hours worth of music in a wide range of styles - classical, heavy metal, country, jazz, drum and bugle corps (like marching band)... I listen to a lot of stuff. If I don't do that then I will sometimes find a good TV show on NBC.com or CBS.com and set it to run while I am working.

Oooohhh...silence,give me silence. If I'm attempting to connect with that voice within, quiet usually serves the purpose most successfully. Much depends on what I'm attempting to accomplish, and what mood I'm in. If I'm chugging away on a repetitious task, sometimes I will put on music. If I'm looking to be inspired, I might choose Ricky's "Sacred Age", " Pachabel's Greatest Hit" -16 or so variations on that tune - yumm, or any of Tim Wheater's music. I learned of him from the book The Artist's Way, some time back. Gina Citoli is another excellent one. And an all time favorite is Canadian Brass! Sharon, I'm a huge Righteous Brothers fan, too! I'm not very fond of country western, but discovered Cowboy Junkies and can be caught jiving in my studio whilst listening to them. 8) Just nothing dissonant with my spirit. I love music, and was most fascinated with the book The Mozart Effect. Music actually causes physiological changes in our body; choose well.

Mandy, I have a couple Celtic Woman CDs too. Love them. I have a commute to work so their in my car along with Alison Kraus, Shania Twain and Bruce Springsteen and that married couple Ricky recommended that play guitar and cello and am having a senior moment because I can't remember their name.

On the subject of music as we create our own art form, My hubby Mike and I were listening to a jazz radio station the other night and the instrumental piece we heard was a tribute to Jackson Pollack. The sounds did indeed make one think of the splashy free nature of Pollack's work. I know that the music I listen to does effect what I create, but I had never though of a work of art as the inspiration for a musical piece. I guese the creative spirit can be opened from either end. Just a thought for the day. Cyber Hugs to all!!! Betty Ann in foggy Florida

Music, ah, yes. Sometimes, it's one of Ricky's CDs. Sometimes, it might be Greatest Hits from the late 16th century--I love Michael Praetorius. And sometimes people driving past might see me through the window, ironing and dancing at the same time, to the Rolling Stones, Saffire the Uppity Blues Women, The Band, Rare Earth, lots of oldies. And sometimes just silence.

Most often, SILENCE - ssssshhhhh! I'm listening to the music in my head.
Next often - classic rock XM which comes on satellite TV. I'm a child of the 60's.
Next - books on tape from the library.
All of this is turned upside down, however, if my Kansas University Jayhawk basketball team is playing. Then I'm watching basketball, baby! 8)

yes i have done the music in my head but the problem is it gets stuck like a record that is skipping on one phrase of the song. that is why i listen to music it also keeps the other voices in my head quiet. you know the ones that say you really dont have to finish this..... music is good.

Happy,
I watch HGTV on the weekends when I'm on the longarm. I love the shows on organization and the new stuff for kitchens.
We just got digital tv from cable and it has a bunch of music channels-I'm thinking I'll work my way through them one at a time. I might find something new to listen to and I'm always open to that.

I also like the books on tape or CD, especially while I am hand quilting since hearing over my machine can be hard. It is especially nice to have both the book and the CD so I can really read when I get the chance. I go to my public library and check them out from time to time since they have a wonderful selection and it is a lot cheeper than buying them. The last one I did was James Patterson's The Lake House (not the same as the movie by the same name), which was the sequel to Where the Wind Blows which I read over the summer. I also am a techno-horror story nut so you are most likely to find Douglis Preston/Lincolin Child books or Stephen King in my player. I need to get to the library and check out the last Dark Tower book since that is what I am reading right now and I know I would finish faster if I listen while I quilt too. Other recent selections I recommend are Shoot the Moon, Sarah (modern retelling of the storie of Sarah and Abraham), and Brimstone (Preston/Child).
