I love, love, love wool batting also. And I've had no problem with bearding. There's maybe a tiny bit of bearding visible on the blackest of solid blacks, but I don't think that's a problem. And I can't really tell the difference between the tiny bit of bearding and Dusty's luscious hair that I can never quite get off. Wool by itself drapes so wonderfully and feels so good and looks so good, but wool by itself sags a bit when I hang the full-sized quilt on the wall. Just like I do now. And I don't think my sagging is a big a big problem either.

Why are so many topics so timely? ha
I'm just finishing my first 'real' trapunto project and although it's fine for it's purpose (pillow shams) I approached it from ignorance (always a good place to start! ha).
ops:
I used several layers of my cotton/poly batting......so it's very VERY firm...did all my delicate trim on the back and then added my full size layer of cotton......and yes, they look great but as I said, they are FIRM! ha
I'm realizing reading this that wool would give the full look without the deeply packed firmness I've achieved! But they look good on my bed!
Learning, always learning, and why didn't I look here first? :?: Because when I get a 'bee in my bonnet' and an idea blooms, there is no time to reasearch.........ha Just do it!

Margo - the quick answer is: I don't. If I know something is going to hang on the wall all the time in one direction, I don't use wool. I need to try two layers - the 80/20 that I love with wool on top. My favorite wool batt quilt that I love - it's square, and omni-directional; I hang it a couple weeks in my office on one side (with about 8 or 10 binder clips), and then turn it, and then a couple weeks later turn it, and then turn it. And then I take it home and let it relax and cuddle with it... And then start all over again.keithdommer.com
