    Show 1605 Barbara Shapel

I have just watched this show and was blown away by the gorgeous quilts shown.
What a very talented lady and so generous with the information, I was particularly interested in the info about needles.
Rita, you will be interested in what Alex shows about the circular attachment.
    Another great show from T Q S
    Thanks
    Anne

Beautiful quilts and a wealth of information. Be sure to have a notepad to jot down info re needles. You'll need it the next time you have a chance to stock up on needles. Joann's is having a 50% off coupon for the notions wall right now. Our local store does not carry an extensive variety of types and sizes but I will check out their stock online.

Lois, thank you for the tip about the sale on needles.
And thank you, TQS for another great show. They are getting better and better!!! Great job!

Barbara Shapel was one of the guest artists/teachers at the Sisters Oregon Quilt Show in 2013. I was taking a free motion quilt class with Cindy Needham there and was a beginner in free motion quilting. Saw some of Barbara's quilts at the show and was astounded by her artistry, ingenuity, and mastery. Maybe someday, if I practice enough, I might feel worthy of taking a class with her.

Kathy, take her class now and then take it again! It will be worth it, if you can do it now. You will learn so much, and what you learn next from her will be so well informed from the first time you took a class with her.

What a fabulous show! She is a fountain of information. Definitely one of my favorite shows.

I think I might be waiting a long time to find a class near me. I am thinking that the DVD would be a great investment. I wonder where you get hoops like the one she used. They made no mention of who made it or where to get it.

I agree. It was one of their best shows. I do like Superior's titanium top stitch needles, but I occasionally have had some problems with skipping, so I think I'll try her suggestions on needles when that happens. I also like her method for thread painting a double sided art quilt.

I love the idea of an invisible sleeve. But I want to know how a quilt with such a sleeve is bound! Can anyone help?

                  Thanks -- Anabeth

If you scroll down below the Barbara Shapel video, there is a link to her website where you can order her DVD about $30. Oh heck, I'll just put the link here for you: www.barbarashapel.com/dvd.html
I think I'll be ordering it, she has lots of great advice on the show, so three hours will have lots more.

I had the same question. Watched the whole thing a second time and caught Ricky mentioning that the binding details are in her book. I think the DVD focuses on FMQ.

I really enjoyed this show too. Glad to see Hemingworth threads getting the thumbs up. I love them and have used them on many quilts, and they are really reasonably priced too.

Anne my thumb tack and electrical tape method for circles works really well but I think I will buy the circular attachment for my Bernina eventually, for precision circles.

Nancy's Notions has a circle sewing attachment. Has anyone used that? If so, how do you like it?

I watched the video of Nancy Zeiman demonstrating the circle sewing attachment last night and I think if I had to choose I would go for the one for my machine I thought the one demonstrated looked a bit fiddly.
Rita the circle attachment for the Janome is £45.00 !!!!! but I have seen it for £39.00 ...not that I plan to get one.
Spring is in the air ...blue skies today and warmer weather forecast, AS LAST.

Just had a chance to watch the show and loved the information on needles. Is it possible to excerpt that portion of the show and add it to the classrooms section of the website? Very valuable information. It's something that would be worth viewing from time to time.
