Jan, you might try Fabric Inks: http://www.jukeboxquilts.com/store/allPurposeInks.php

Thanks, Margo. I think the inks would be cheaper than individual fat quarters. Besides my LQS and Joann's don't seem to have much of a variety of batiks. The economy has to be hard on fabric stores. Jan

Ooops..... sent the last message too quickly. I also wanted to say: I have turned drawings of children into needlework pieces in the past. If they were finished off as wallhangings, I incorporated a pocket on the back and popped the original artwork and some details about the young artist in the pocket. That way the 'connection' hopefully won't get lost. From the edge of Sherwood Forest, home of Robin Hood

Thanks Lorchen, my daughter did it a few years ago and she's almost 16 now. She says she wonders how she did it so well. Sometimes she is amazed, other times frustrated. Any way I want to do it for her. She will appreciate it. My son didn't when I did his wall quilt from his drawing. I even tried to surprize him at Christmas. Oh, Well. You can see it on my profile. Oh I love that drawing and batiks would look great. I think the drawing might look great as a stained glass quilt. If you can't find the batiks locally, you might try Hancock's of Paducah online. They have fabulous batiks and a wide range of colors. Just a thought. Look forward to seeing how you end up doing this.

I don't know enough to make suggestions, Jan, but I just wanted to express what a lovely idea it is to do this for your daughter. The fact that she is amazed that she did so well when she made it suggests that she will more than appreciate what you will do for her. I remember when you posted about your son's not quite appreciating turning his picture into a quilt, but I think this time it will be different.

Hi, Renata, I will get started soon. It just has seemed to be too hard to do. Maybe I'll start today. I made a diorama for my aunt which I'll try to show here. I used favorite fabrics from my stash and fused them down to the picture frame backing. I put this scripture on it "Whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, it there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy-meditate on these things. Phil 4:8" Thanks for the suggestion. I think the Lord meant for you to spur me on. Jan

Jan, I look forward to seeing the progress on the quilt for your daughter. Are you going to let your daughter peek at it while you're making it or will it be a surprise? She might enjoy providing an input on the fabrics... you never know... then, she'll be a part of the process and it will something to remember being part of with her own mom. Just a thought... In the meantime, the diorama is beautifully designed and the colors are peaceful and calm.
