MommyG1 Your Birdhouse quilt turned out great. Your birds are so realistic. I especially like that yours has both the green and sky. Looks so natural. HelenW

I decided to machine quilt my background and border first, before adding appliqué pieces. Assembled sections of birdhouses , birds, flowers, raw edge, machine blanket stitch. Now everything in position to be stitched down, may use some other decorative stitches. Green with white polka dot for binding!

No worries, Suzanne. The photos are there now. But 4 days ago they weren't showing up. Probably something to do with the migration of the site.

Here is my Birdhouse Wallhanging! I adjusted the size so that it will work in the space of my kitchen for my seasonal quilt wallhanging. I am going to to do some thread painting on the blue birds like I did for the cardinal on my winter sunset wallhanging. I have not started appliqué yet. This has been fun!

Progress so far. I'm waiting for glue stick refills to be delivered so I can finish more birds and my bunch of tulips for the lower left corner. Nothing is stitched down yet, still fiddling with placement. I have a couple of B/W paper birds testing placement. I really like this quilt - happy colors. Haven't decided whether to hand stitch or machine stitch, but leaning towards machine. I made one of my bird houses a bird chateau in tribute to Chateau Diaries on YouTube (with which I am obsessed - great escape entertainment). Fun project, thank you Alex!

It is great to be able to see the photos again! Everyone is making great progress. I am still at the stage of making components. This is turning into a longer-term project for me I think. I might do all the applique by hand, to give me something to do at quilt group meetings.

I tried to edit and it said I exceeded the time limit. It wasn't a long time either. Site still is confusing but I'll get the hang of it. Huge site, must have been quite the undertaking

I used wool for the roof and poles which I love. I thought I should have used wool for the flowers as they were a lot of work. I love it and will hang it in my kitchen. My first wall hanging.

Bird House Quilt.jpg I have enjoyed the process. Whimsical hasn't been a part of my quilting life. I'm stepping out of the box. Thank you for helping.

Unfortunately your photo isn't showing up.

What is the best size machine needle to do the applique on the birdhouse with?
