I know you do not care for inner borders, because it throws off the size. However for me I believe an inner border would bring all the blocks together visually. Then you could put the outside border on. I could even see the inner border being two colors to compliement what looks like on your quilt. top left color of red, bottom right blue. Just my thoughts. Too busy with not resting place.

Fabrics are beautiful! I love the way you displayed them. Kaffe's Burano book just arrived yesterday! Several quilts in the book interest me! Where did you see him talking about Burano? I'd like to watch it!

Can someone explain the math for adding half square triangles to our unfinished 6.5 blocks? I want to understand how Alex came up with 5 and 1/4 inches for the square to be cut diagonally.

I'm using just one Kaffe from my stash and yellow instead of white.

mathematically you should be calculating the hypotenuse of a triangle . a half square triangle is a 90 degree triangle (it has equal sized legs. So as I understand her placement of the half sq. triangle, it is the hypotenuse that should be 6.5 inches. the hypotenuse is 6.5 its legs are 4.6. therefore the square is a 4.6 inch square. divide the hypotenuse by the square root of 2. [note the square root of 2 is 1.41 [plus another 8 or so characters but I used 1.41]. So maybe she made an error.
                              I cut a 5 1/8 inch square (not 5 1/4") in half and it yielded a 7 1/8 " long leg (hypotenuse). I cut a 4 5/8 " square and got a long leg of 6.5 and a smidge.

I have a design wall very similar to this idea., but it uses a roller shade with a really nice 'fabric' type flannel /vinyl (I'm guessing, but the blocks stick to it better than my other design walls which are just flannel. I can't sew without several design walls. ) Anyway, a roller shade would be even easier to 'put away', just roll up. One could just glue a flannel to the surface.
