    What Was Your First Quilt?

I don’t start small. I started this Sampler Quilt in 1985 when I was out of work for a couple months. I made my clothes in high school and after I married. My mom made quilts so I knew the process. I hand pieced the blocks and started hand quilting it in 1987. My mom quilted a couple blocks and my son and daughter also added a few stitches somewhere on the quilt so if for no other reason that this, the quilt is special to me.

About halfway through the quilting, I packed it away until 2009 when I quilted some more but soon packed it away again. I came out again in 2019 but after a few weeks I packed it away again. I only have a couple blocks left to quilt so maybe I will come out again in the next few months.

I’m not sure what the batting is but this quilt is so heavy and the colors are definitely out of the 80’s. But for my first quilt, I didn’t do half bad.

While looking at Alex on Simply Quilts I became interested in quilting. The pansy quilt was presented by Diana McClun Laura Nownes. I taped the show, made drawings and notes and created my first quilt. It's still hanging in my house. After that went on a quilting cruise and while aboard purhased a Bernina 153 Quilters Edition with Alex's signature. Thank you Alex for introducing me to this wonderful skill.

I very impressed with your first quilt especially that you did it from watch Simply Quilts. I watched and recorded many Simply Quilt shows so I was very excited when The Quilt Show was created. Thank you Alex and Ricky.
