You always hear about Betsy Ross and the American Flag, but did you know that George Washington had a different 13-star flag?
The now faded and fragile blue silk flag, also known as the Commander-in-Chief standard, that marked General George Washington’s presence on the battlefield, was on exhibit at the Museum of the American Revolution. Due to its fragility it is very rarely seen.
The rare flag measures approximately two feet by three feet and features 13 white, six-pointed stars representing the 13 colonies on a blue field. It is believed to be the earliest surviving 13-star American flag.
