Featured Quilt - Over Two-Hundred Handmade Blocks
When designing a quilt, it is always more fun, though some would argue it isn't, to give yourself a challenge when making your work to boost your creativity. That is exactly what Aiko Ishikawa did with her quilt, World of 4.724 Inch, in which she told herself that her hand work designs had to be confined to each 4.724-inch, or 12-cm, block she made. With over 200 different blocks throughout the quilt, that's quite the creative undertaking, but Aiko's quilt absolutely shines because of it.
Featured as part of of the Hand Quilted/Handmade Category (Sponsored by Andover / Homestead Hearth) at Houston International Quilt Festival 2024, Aiko says, "The theme is "My Color." As I made each pattern, i thought about what colors I liked, and how freely and joyfully I could combine colors and patterns. I kept challenging myself to work within the 4.724-inch / 12-cm square."
