Featured Quilt - Ravishing Redwork

True to its name, Red Work by Yasuyo Kon features some absolutely stunning redwork quilting. Featured in the Machine Quilting category (Sponsored by BERNINA) at the 2024 Houston International Quilt Festival, and using a Miniature Free-Motion Quilting Pattern as its design source, Yasuyo's quilt stands out by having you get closer to see every exquisite stitch she used.

She says, "I made this quilt by using decorative stitches built into the sewing machine. I combined them with free-motion quilting to create a sense of unity using detailed stitches that can only be achieved with machine quilting."

Sampler Quilts with Merrily Parker

Super Sampler Quilts to Show Off Your Skills

Meet Merrily Parker, a successful local quilt shop owner who shares the secrets behind the enduring popularity of her Saturday Sampler quilts, now in their 24th year. On our latest show, Merrily, who is making her Quilt Show return after many years, demonstrates how subtle changes — such as substituting one unit of a block with a different unit (rectangle, square, flying geese) — can create striking variations on traditional blocks. Merrily shares examples of a sampler block that demonstrates the diversity possible through substitutions made only to the center.

WeAllSew Tutorial: Blindstitch Binding the BERNINA Way

Find Out How to Bind Using Your BERNINA

Think of all the quilts you've made. Now think about how you bound each quilt. Did you bind every one the same way? Maybe, maybe not, because there are many different ways to bind a quilt, and each one desires a binding fit for that quilt. Today, Julie Bridgeman at WeAllSew is going to show you how to do one such binding, Blindstitch Binding the BERNINA Way, which will give your quilt that appearance of a hand stitched binding done by machine.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: A French Braid Stained Glass Quilt

"Thanks, Frank" by Jane Hardy Miller

Thanks, Frank is a French Braid quilt done in the style of a Stained Glass quilt. Taking its name from famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright, Thanks, Frank uses a complex color palette to create the rainbow quilt that Jane had always wanted to make. Using the full spectrum of the rainbow as the braid run, the ten to twelve fabrics used for the French Braid, Jane then picked a similar rainbow fabric to use for the inner squares, the border, and the separators, something she had never done before. Then, to produce the Stained Glass look, Jane used solid black fabric to separate out the colors in the braid run.
