WeAllSew Tutorial: Blindstitch Binding the BERNINA Way

Think of all the quilts you've made. Now think about how you bound each quilt. Did you bind every one the same way? Maybe, maybe not, because there are many different ways to bind a quilt, and each one desires a binding fit for that quilt. Today, Julie Bridgeman at WeAllSew is going to show you how to do one such binding, Blindstitch Binding the BERNINA Way, which will give your quilt that appearance of a hand stitched binding done by machine.

From Julie Bridgeman at WeAllSew:

"Did you know there are many options to bind your quilt by machine? Sometimes the quilt will determine which option you choose. If it’s a baby blanket, you might decide on a ruffled binding to add texture. If it’s for a child, you might choose decorative stitch binding to add another color. But what if you want the binding to look hand stitched? Today I’ll show you blindstitch binding. This machine binding technique is simple and the stitches are nearly invisible. You’ll be amazed and wonder why you didn’t know about this sooner!"

Sorry to be harsh, but this has got to be one of the worst tutorials BERNINA has ever presented. Too fast and you can't even see the stitch she selected. Not to mention, the result is awful looking and I wouldn't even put it on a charity quilt....

Sorry to be harsh, but this has got to be one of the worst tutorials BERNINA has ever presented. Too fast and you can't even see the stitch she selected. Not to mention, the result is awful looking and I wouldn't even put it on a charity quilt. That stitch needs to be shortened so the securing stitches are much closer together. I bet it looks pretty bad on the right side of the quilt, too.

I use the #71 foot to quickly flat-fell the bindings on my quilts - I have done over a hundred this way and taught the method to my guilds and friends with BERNINAs. It is very durable, neat and quick.

This is ridiculously fast, and I doubt most people can figure out how she is prepping the machine to do the actual stitching. It would be "nearly invisible" if the thread was a match to the fabric.

I agree, the video is very poorly presented. Time is not even taken to show or give the number of the foot. And let's have a video on how to do the ruffle binding. I own a BERNINA 790 pro- a very expensive machine. My free lesson on the new...

I agree, the video is very poorly presented. Time is not even taken to show or give the number of the foot. And let's have a video on how to do the ruffle binding. I own a BERNINA 790 pro- a very expensive machine. My free lesson on the new machine was given to me on 790 plus. My free lesson on the embroidery module was given in a class with at least 12 others. Not more than 3 of us had the 790pro. I'm sorry this is not the place for my complaint, but ......
