Who is Heidi Proffetty?

Blending inspirational photography, mosaic design and quilting combined with a bit of technology, a digital die cutting machine, I create mosaic art quilts. It begins with the photos I capture. My images speak to me personally. They express feelings, mood, color and light connecting me to the people, places and objects in my photos. After choosing a photo to work with, I freehand draw a mosaic design of it which is later used to create a digital pattern. Next, I carefully select commercial batiks and hand-dyed fabrics to achieve the perfect combination of shading, contrast and interest. In the end, all of the small, intricate fabric pieces are precisely cut using a digital cutter, fused into place and free-motion stitched creating an art quilt that is both filled with emotion and visually stunning. Heidi Proffetty is an award winning quilter and teacher known for her mosaic style of art quilts. In 2017 she won 2nd and 3rd place awards at International Quilt Festival in Houston. Her quilts have been juried into American Quilter’s Society, traveled with Cherrywood Fabric’s Challenge exhibits and exhibited in local galleries. She has been a featured guest artist on Quilting Arts TV and published Quilting Arts Magazine. In 2018 she made a guest appearance on The Quilt Show and the show #2406 is scheduled to air March 10, 2019. In 2019, she will continue to make mosaic style of art quilts, enter quilt shows and will offer lectures and workshops to teach others her original technique of creating mosaic art quilts using a digital cutter.
