Cosplay

The Japanese term, Kosupure, was anglicized as Cosplay which is short for "costume play". The term is attributed to being first heard in Japan in 1984 after the World Science Fiction Convention (Worldcon) in Los Angeles, California.

Players become their favorite characters in anime, books, movies or video games. There are four levels of cosplay in competition: novice, journeyman, master or professional. The levels are based on not only the complete costume and make up, but speech and mannerisms as well. Cosplayers often dress for regional or international conventions and competitions. Most Cosplayers make their own costumes and are very knowledgable about their characters.
