What is the UFO Situation?

As an April Fool's prank last week we asked people if they would like to win the opportunity to have Alex or Ricky finish their UFO. In the process, we asked a few questions about their projects. Take a look at some of their answers.

WHAT DO YOUR UFO's LOOK LIKE?

On April Fools Day we offered the opportunity to enter a "Contest" to have Ricky or Alex complete an unfinished quilt project for you. But before you could enter, we had a few questions about your unfinished projects...

First we asked, "How old is your UFO?"

 - 50% wanted Alex and Ricky to finish a UFO that was fresh as a spring daisy at less than 5 years old. (Ok maybe not a SPRING daisy...)

 - But 4% had unfinished projects from more than 25 years ago! Where does the time go?

Next we asked, "How big is your UFO?"

 - 64% were making bed-sized quilts when their project stalled.

 - 1% were making mini quilts fit for mice.

 - 2% were making elephant sized quilts that are "larger than king-sized." Who are you larger-than-king-sized quilt people and what are you making?

Last but not least we asked, "How finished is your UFO?"

 - 61% of you suffer from FOQO—Fear Of Quilting Obfuscation—which is to say that the quilt top is finished but you're too scared to quilt it. Or maybe you just got bored? We think you should search the website for "How to quilt a quilt" and get going.

 - 9% hadn't actually started your unfinished project yet, or maybe you just recognized an opportunity to have Alex or Ricky make you a quilt if you supplied the pattern & fabric?

 - 1% just need to do the finishing. Grab a cup of tea, some chocolate (white chocolate only around the quilt please!) and pick an audio book and get started!

Thank you for being such great sports!

I believe I have the oldest UFO. All hand pieced by my Great Grandmother Melinda Pettit in 1890. She used it as a table cloth. I know the date by researching the Mariner's pattern and fabric. I purchased the perfect backing and binding fabric, but haven't found the perfect quilting pattern. I quilt using my Janome Horizon but worry the fabric may be too fragile for a 90 needle. Do you have any suggestions for me as to a quilting pattern and advice? I have completed a pretty extensive search for the historic quilting pattern.
thank you I enjoy your show and watch it every day.

Well, I fell for the April Fool's joke, and it inspired to get moving and I know have my Norway quilt at the quilter. I also have the one I was hoping you would quilt ready. Bought the backing and ready to go. I'm still not sure how to quilt it because of all the Sun Bonnet Sue squares by hand. I will keep working that one. At least you spired me on. Next, I will applique the flowers for Spinning Spool..

I have several unfinished wall quilts. One was finished in ~1988. Over the years life changed and it needed a massive update. Took it completely apart. Making one last thing to add before quilting. Another: started to quilt, but unhappy with the results (experiments don't always work). Took the hand quilting out, ready to start again.

My unfinished quilt is from 1987 and is peach and grey which were the in colors then. Maybe if I wait long enough the colors will come back and then I can finish it. It was for my king sized bed.

A good question would be how many of them are a “grandmother’s flower garden”?
